Too funny, and a brilliant satire on those ubiquitous GEICO commercials! Now you've got me imagining Pippin chirping "I just saved a bundle on my insurance" to Denethor as the latter is preparing to burn himself and Faramir and Grond-Grond-Grond is knocking at the Great Gate... Author Reply: There are a lot of scenes in the movies where that line would fit in, actually. Like Mount Doom, as Frodo is dangling from Sam's hand...

Oh, that was neat - Frodo's thoughts, esp. at the end. Another part in which you note that the Story as well as the Road goes ever on and on and we are all involved in it stretching back through the many many years. Everytime I hear Aragorn say in the BBC Radio program in this scene, that "we have naught to fear" under the shadows of these statues, I think how can you say that, one of them is Isildur and he screwed up, but like Frodo, I can't blame him either. I have these statues as book ends myself. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: I do too. :-) The ones that came with the Fellowship extended edition, that is. They're holding up my LOTR DVDs.

I can far too easily see Frodo thinking this at that moment. (Although in the movie I believe it was the statue of Elendil that held the birds nest--although in the past three thousand years both statues probably held birds nests, while in the book the statues were of both Elendil's sons--Isildur and Anarion--rather than the elder son and the father.) Yes, Isildur was freed of the burden by the orcs, and so it's fallen to another to do what Isildur could not. Author Reply: I'd never heard that the statues in the movie were supposed to be Elendil and Isildur. Typical inexplicable Jacksonization, if so. Interesting. Anyway, the inspiration for the drabble was the scene in the book, though the birds were indeed from the movie. :-)

"Paint a picture--it will last longer!" How he would indeed seek to hide the knowledge, for to tell him too early would probably set him on the road out of the Shire that much too early! Alas, poor Frodo--thinking he isn't transparent to those who love him! Author Reply: Of course, if Frodo had left earlier than he did, he wouldn't have had the Ringwraiths on his tail the whole way...but then it would be a far different story.

Oh, how all too easily would Rosie know this fear! It was due to this I had Frodo advise her to truly and deeply kiss Sam before they left, strengthening the bonds to living life while it is yet to be lived. Thank you so much for this one, Rowan--it is truly a keeper.

Ah, but there is definitely a magic to being lighthearted and rejoicing in the days as they come. But Frodo knows and appreciates--all too well does he do so. The rest don't yet know, but I suspect that when the time came they realized it was indeed necessary. Lovely, Rowan. The grief of Elrond is great, but at least it leads him to a reunion he so deserves and needs, and greater peace, I hope, in the end.

Alas, those poor, abused toes! I want to kiss them and make them better, and that worries me. Am I being unfaithful to my Aragorn? Heh! But it is the thought of how much he realizes he's missed these days seventeen years later that moves me most, I think. Author Reply: I bet during the quest Frodo wished all he had to worry about was spring cleaning.

I agree - work is no fun when you could be reading or writing but it must be done and I do set aside time for it. And the last time you do something with someone - and the first time - are special times. What a blessing those two were to each other. Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Indeed! (Sorry for the delay replying, and then the terse response! Been busy.)

The request was for fluff? Well ... dust-bunnies ... fluff.... It seems to me that you were successful! ;-) Author Reply: I think actually it was for Frodo and Bilbo spring-cleaning, which I thought should yield fluffy results. Turns out the only fluff *was* the dust bunnies.

Most dear tale... though poor Frodo has already started his suffering, huh, with books on his toes. *supresses a small giggle* Author Reply: Guess that'll be the least of his worries!
