I think this is my favorite chapter so far. Especially liked the description of the wasps being sent into the spectators.:D Sounds like Pippin and Merry haven't changed much, even with their new responsibilities. Lol

Go, Merry go! But I am still rooting for Sam!

Love the fact that Diamond holds all the keys to Pippin and that Merry makes shameless use of that.

Then again, as Ralf Bolger pointed out, "there t'wouldn't have been half such a good show!"

I couldn't have said it better, Ralf! Merry is clever and magnificent at everything -- and that, too, is entertaining, but Pippin knows how to put on a good show! This was just as hilarious as the previous chapters -- and Farmer Cotton stole the scene with setting him to rights. :-D

But when it came to his darling wife, Diamond, Pippin knew he had met his match – in more ways than just matrimonially. One sunrise smile from her enchanting blue eyes and Pippin melted into abject and total obedience. Merry frequently used this cunning device quite ruthlessly to manage some of Pippin's more stubbornly destructive, albeit well-meaning, behaviour.

Oh, please, please! You *must* elaborate on this passage. I'd love to read of an instance of Pippin melting like butter in Diamond's palm and Merry using this tool to get Pippin to behave himself. Will begging help?

LOL I agree with Ralf Bolger. If Pippin hadn't had a turn at driving then this wouldn't have been nearly as much fun! I'm glad to know that ale makes everything better by the way. That was a very clever idea that Pippin had there for smoothing over the troubled waters. Now, I can't wait to find out who has actually won the race!

Ah, am certain it wouldn't have been anywhere as fun to watch had Merry run things from the beginning. But what a tactic to sink to! Oh, he knows Pippin's vulnerabilities, doesn't he? Heh!

"Pippin! Are you going to get down? Or do I have to go and get Diamond?"

LOL!!! Poor Pippin! He did his very best, I must say ;-)

Merry's method of handling that contraption is far more effective, but as Ralf Bolger pointed out "there t'wouldn't have been half such a good show!"

And I agree with him!

"Then again, as Ralf Bolger pointed out, "there t'wouldn't have been half such a good show!" "

ROFL!! Indeed not! Merry, dear as he is, is not nearly as entertaining. ;-)

I love all the trouble Pippin had and I love his way of placating Farmer Cotton!

Wonderful as always, Llinos!

*ROTFL*

I love the way old Tom Cotton is making the most of this!

"My dear Farmer Cotton," Pippin was all contrition. "I'm so sorry! Look I'll have someone fetch you a pint of ale, just to make up for your inconvenience." He thrust a coin into the hand of young Herbie Pottleshaw, "Go and get Farmer Cotton a mug of ale – the best mind you! Hurry now."

"Not from the Ivy Bush," Farmer Cotton was set in his ways and preferred the brew from the Green Dragon. "And make sure it's proper 1420!"

And then Merry with the ultimate in dire threats! *snigger*

"Pippin! Are you going to get down? Or do I have to go and get Diamond?"

"Oh!" Pippin knew when he was beaten and reluctantly climbed down from the bench.

Uh-huh. The hero of Gondor and slayer of trolls is putty in the hands of his wife, LOL!

Yes, this is a wonderfully good show! Frodo and Gandalf were so wise to slip off to the West for some peace and quiet. And I do love passages like, The fire billowed smoke that Smaug would have been proud to own. *grins*

*grin* Pippin really has a hang to find trouble, hasnīt he? Glad he has a Merry ( and now also Diamond) to avoid the worst!!!!
Very nice Chapter! :) And I really wanna know now, what Sam and Frodo-lad are doing!

And donīt worry, I offer lifts to no one... and no one would borrow me a car anyway...or is brave enough to get inside there...not even I.
Imagine an automatic car, a parking space and a tree. Car is rolling inside the space, but it is not easy to step on the right pedal you know. ;) Well so when you step down the gas instead of the break, the car is able to do a big jump into the tree with a loud BANG and you can scare the hell out of innocent passengers, that just walk behind the tree and the friend that sits next to you. Quite funny! ;)
Another nice way is to loose the way of the street and drive into a cornfield, because the stars shining like diamonds and are much more interessting than the road. Thats to undertsand isnt it? Well but not everyone was amused.
etc.
