The Great Hobbiton Race of 1435  by Llinos 10 Review(s)

"Oh Merry!" Sam's mouth dropped open in genuine dismay. "Your magnificent engine!"

"Ha!" Merry shrugged dismissively. "No matter. I'd rather have my magnificent cousin. After all, Pippin is capable of causing more excitement on his own than a hundred engines laid end-to-end! . . ."

Music to a Pippin lover's ears :-)

A wonderfully written rescue!

Whew!

A wonderful rescue! Hooray for Merry and Sam as well as Pippin!

Author Reply: And now on to tying up the ends.

Thanks for reviewing and new chapter awaits.

Ah, such brave hobbits! Such dramatic writing! *gives cheer* I wonder if Merry is going to need dental work now from all the teeth-grinding. ;o)

Author Reply: Perhaps they could have used the steam engine to pull rotten teeth out? Oh well, too late now.

Thanks for reviewing and new chapter awaits!

These last two chapters have been nail-biters. It was great to see Pippin so quick-thinking and brave, and wonderful to see Merry and Sam promptly forget their rivalry in their efforts to save the Green Dragon and, especially, Pippin. Pippin's wondering if he'd done something brave or foolish was priceless. I've loved every minute of this story.

Author Reply: Don't go! There's more!

Thanks for reviewing and hope you like the new chapter(s).

I loved the way Sam had to keep Merry from leaping into the building after Pippin. Merry must have been desperate to save his Pip because it isn't often that Merry forgets to think things through. Good thing Sam was there at that moment.

("Why did you say that?" Pippin frowned, then winced with pain. "Did I do something stupid or brave?"
"Both," Merry smiled down at him and tried to wipe some of the black soot smudges off Pippin's worried face. "As usual."
I knew it must be one or the other," Pippin sighed, his eyes closing again. "Because I hurt all over." ) that bit was perfect!

("Ha!" Merry shrugged dismissively. "No matter. I'd rather have my magnificent cousin. After all, Pippin is capable of causing more excitement on his own than a hundred engines laid end-to-end.") I agree completely with Merry. One thing's for certain though, the machine had its uses. Sam might have come to like it.

Oh and I may have said but if so then I will repeat myself. I love the titles of the chapters! I have found them all very entertaining.

Looking forward to more! Three cheers for the Thain! Three cheers for the Master! Three cheers for the Mayor! And nine cheers for Llinos!

Author Reply: Indeed, Merry does tend to lose all sense where Pippin is concerned.

My title chapters do tend to be a trifle cavalier. Probably designed to make reader think the content is more exciting than it is! But whatever works!

Thanks for reviewing and new chapter awaits your inspection.

(PS I'm sure I don't deserve NINE cheers, but they are much appreciated)

*Sigh* I can "smell" an ending coming up. :-( Perhaps if I beg hard enough it won't ever come. ;-)

What an exciting day for Bywater! The Shire's first ever Fire Brigade headed up by Captains Meriadoc and Peregrine. What a brave duo! I love how you portrayed Merry's deep and abiding love for his younger cousin through those anxious moments not knowing what happened to Pippin, and in spite of the Apparatus being smashed to bits. I know a piece of Merry's heart was with it.

This is such a delightful story of how well hobbits get on together, and how well they work together, too. The Professor mentioned that they can work like bees when the mood strikes them. I'm *still* enjoying this tale and hope to enjoy it for a long while yet. ;-) (hint, hint)

Author Reply: Oh but it doesn't end here!

Yes poor Merry to lose his precious engine - but at least he still has a slightly battered Pip.

New chapter up and more to follow, so your hints are valid.

Thanks for reviewing.

Now, that's what I love to see: Merry and Sam let all their differences go and work together to rescue Pippin. When push comes to shove, there's no competition, only friendship.

Poor Pip--broken leg, hurt back! I loved his conclusion that because he hurt all over, he must have done something either brave or stupid--like stabbing a troll, maybe? But the magnificent machine finally proved its worth, and gave its all to save Pippin.

And of *course* Merry would rather have his magnificent cousin!

Author Reply: Well what else could we expect of a hobbit machine?

Thanks for the review, new chapter up now and more to follow.

Yay! I'm so glad they got to Pippin! I think this is one of my favorite chapters. Sorry that I can't say why that is, it just is. Great Job!

Author Reply: Well I'm guessing that you love to see brave and resourceful hobbits, throwing themselves into danger.

There's more now, but not so much danger, except for Pippin getting a severe attack of nursing!

Thanks for reviewing.

"Did I do something stupid or brave?"

"Both"

LOL!!!

I'm glad that the machine could be used to rescue Pippin. It's really a shame that it is now buried under all that debris.

But Merry is right! With Pippin around there is no need for further excitement ;-)

Author Reply: Such a shame - but perhaps for the best.

Thanks for reviewing - new chapter up now!
