As chilling and sad as these snippets are, they are very true to each character. Well done, and I'm just delighted that you're posting again.

Author Reply: These were some of the darkest pieces I've written. Glad you found them true to each character. I'm glad to be back posting here. If feels like coming home. Hopefully, the muse will return with a whole new bunch of stories that he wants me to write.

"You do look ever so much older than I do, after all."

I love the way you write Pippin. So wise, so cheeky, so totally himself at all times.

Author Reply: Thanks. I consider that very high praise. Thanks for taking the time to review.

Dear Pippin! What a perfect toast.

Author Reply: Thanks, Shirebound. I kinda liked that one too. Glad to know that people will still read my stuff. :)

Well done, Garnet! It seems like ages since I was last here as well. Glad to see you back!

You captured San's voice exceptionally well! It had always been elusive to me. I enjoyed Merry and Pippin's tales as well, except, I'm thinking there must be stories of epic proportions that precede each of these. ;-) Well done, my friend!

Author Reply: Sam has always been a hard one for me to write as well. I don't know how I managed to do him justice in this one, and it's been so long since I wrote it that I have almost no memory of the actual writing. :)

There definitely had to have been epic stories behind these moments, but I don't ever see myself writing them. Too dark and sad even for me to touch...I think.

Thanks for popping in to review, hope your back writing at some point too. I miss your stories.

Unfortunately, I can see all three results. Alas!

The might-have-beens are too often tragic!

Author Reply: Yes, they are often tragic. Thanks for reading. I wasn't sure whether anyone would give anything I posted a second glance since I've been gone so long.

I loved this. I found it tonight and I don't think I've seen before. I love the way Pippin sets Merry straight and that last line of Pippin's is priceless!

Author Reply: Thanks, GW.

I finally got around to putting this up here. It had been on my LJ, but without a title for several months. PF suggested I put it and the other one in a short story file here. Like I have that many short ones.:)

Merry's heart was in the right place, but he just forgets that Pippin isn't a child anymore.

Cute and sweet. The film Return of the King was like one big favorite scene for me but if I had to choose specific scenes it would be Merry watching Pippin be put onto Shadowfax and then watching him be taken away from him. They were always there for each other and then to be separated like that hurt so much.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I'm very glad you liked this.

That moment when Gandalf rides away with Pippin gets me every time.:)

God bless you, too.

Wonderful! I love these two lads. It can be so hard to let someone growup, to not hover over them. You did this beautifully, Garnet!

Author Reply: Thanks, Pearl.

Merry probably really did have a very hard time realizing that Pippin could not only look after himself, but could also now look out for Merry, too. That had to shock the slightly over-protective older hobbit.

They really two wonderful lads.

Huzzah! Hear, hear!

I can't imagine how good it must feel to finally be free!

Beautifully written, Garnet :-)

Author Reply: Thanks so much, Pearl.

Yes. It must have been an amazing feeling. It probably really took a long time for everything to sink in for them.

Just a proper argument for the two of them, silly and wise and loving Hobbits that they are! Yes, a proper one.

Author Reply: Yes, it was. There is no way that two friends could be that close and never argue. It's just not natural. Disagreements are part of the food that friendships grow on.
