Perfect Time  by Elanor Silmariën 3 Review(s)
AntaneReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 6/17/2007
I know I already reviewed this, my dear, but just read it again, and wanted to comment on Frodo being frightened by the power of Iluvatar. He was afraid at the Council also but embraced his cross there. It would be frightening for anyone I think to totally surrender themselves a Power outside them. Blessed Mother Teresa said, "I know God won't give me anything I can't handle. I just wish he wouldn't trust me so much." Cardinal Ratzinger, as he saw the votes coming down to appoint him as the current Pope, likened it to a guillontine (spelling?) about to fall. He did not want the job but he embraced God's Will for him as Frodo did, as Jesus did in His agony in the Garden. I love that image and I hope one day you will expand upon this story - what happened in that year in which Frodo was trying to get his footing in recognizing and embracing his identity as a beloved child of Iluvatar. After the rug pulled out from him with Bilbo's death when his feet were still not entirely steady was a nice part too - and that it didn't destroy his newfound faith either. There is indeed a perfect time for everything.

I listened to this song twice today with Frodo in mind which had never occured to me before but when I saw you had named the story after the song, I purposely listened to it for him and it fits him so well! I can hear him saying these things. Indeed God was the one Who made him shine, for it was His grace that lit him from within. I love the idea that he got to know his Creator. Bilbo's death would have been a shock and a test to his newfound faith but glad he weathered that storm. Death is the last journey and adventure for all of us, but it is indeed a gift for if we have lived what, what a place await us. Maybe that's truly the last adventure - life in heaven!

Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, my dear - Antane :)

I was attracted to this tale by its title and inspiration, since I love Perfect Time. After reading it, I think it is a wonderful commentary on my favorite Tolkien quotation—what I call the Estel passage from Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth in _Morgoth's Ring_. If you haven't read that remarkable conversation, I highly recommend it. Anyway, the point of the passage is that there is a difference between "hope" and "trust" and that God does indeed love all of His children and will bring them to joy. This, I think, is what you have admirably illustrated in your tale.

Thank you for a lovely parable of estel.
