Agape's Attempts  by Agape4Gondor 5 Review(s)

Yes, this is so like ‘Thorongil.’ It’s a pity that the damage was already done and that he returned as Denethor took his own life.

Author Reply: Hi, sorry for the late replies.

Poor Thorongil/Aragorn definitely did not have life do what he hoped. I remember his great concern at Amon Hen as everything he did went wrong, in his sight. Poor dear. Eventually, everythign turned out fine... but difficult to work through. And yes! Wish Denethor and he could have worked something out between them. Drat!

Such a position to be put in! This was very moving.

Author Reply: Thank you. As I wrote, this started out as a drabble but it became so important that I used it and added to it for my epic tale, 10,000 Years Would Not Suffice...

Glad it moved you.... obviously, it moved Aragorn too - right out of Gondor. ROTFL

I really like this. I felt that Aragorn could tell that he was upsetting a precarious balance. It is such a sad tale. I love this wee bit you have filled in.

Author Reply: Thank you, Pearl... It had to be an awkward time... for all of them... and Aragorn KNEW he wasn't going to stay in Minas Tirith.

This must be even MORE interesting in the expanded version. I found Thorongil's dilemma thoroughly engrossing here; indeed, things are not going to fall out as planned!

Author Reply: I have pondered Thorongil's reasons for leaving for a very long time... I cannot believe that he, of all people, would not rue the rift that was developing between the future King and his Steward....

And knowing the time was not yet right - he really only had one choice...

Another alternative reason. And it could be all too true.

Author Reply: Wish I knew what story really ran through Tolkien's mind as he wrote of Thorongil's departure!
