I had tears in my eyes for most of that – especially the conversation between the twins and when Elrohir realises what Elladan had gone through. *sniff* So sad.

And a twist in the tale! I presumed you were finishing up the story but yay, more excitement! Poor Elrohir, how much more does he have to go through?! *secretly hoping it’s loads*...:)

Author Reply: Oh, there's plenty of torment ahead, don't worry. Remember those dreams of Elladan's?

Oh no, how could you leave us with such a cliffhanger! Poor Elrohir,
first he tires himself out healing, and now a horse kicks him in the
head. And then poor Elladan, his foreboding concerning Elrohir's
death! Legolas is hurt, those darn men, how dare they mess with
these lovely Elves?!

Author Reply: Well, those premonitions of Elladan's were there for a reason! There's more fun ahead, too.

How unfair! You save them from one danger to let them fall to another. And a cliffhanger yet. Bad Jay!

Author Reply: But I like cliffhangers! Besides, I couldn't let those raiders who killed poor Bereth escape scott free, could I?

The reconciliation between the twins was beautiful, Jay. Elrohir's mounting guilt as he came to understand all that Elladan had been through. Followed by Elladan's realization that he *can't* share his premonitions with his brother, that he *can't* further burden him, and must for the first time forgo that intimacy he has always had with Elrohir. Both were very touching moments.

Another nice touch: Tiama's acceptance of the deaths of the two elderly patients. That the elves were shocked and she realistic was a quick but spot on display of the how the two races view mortality differently. Death always comes for Men, be it from plague or from old age, and Men must eventually be prepared for it. But for elves, especially younger ones, that is a hard concept to truly understand.

HOWEVER! *crosses arm & taps foot*
Since when did you turn into such a nasty author who likes to pull the rug out from beneath her readers? What is with that chapter ending? I thought we had a nice, happy ending going here. Then you go and add that rogues' attack?

Ack!!

Author Reply: I'm glad you liked the chapter so much. It came as a shock for Elrohir to realise that he'd been presumed dead, and the effect it would have had. And poor Elladan will find it difficult to keep his secret.

I think that Tiama, although sad, would have known that the two patients would probably not survive - but the elves would find that difficult to accept. As you say, it reflects the difference immortality makes.

But the last bit! 'when did I turn into such a nasty author' - have you *read* my other stories? I love cliff hangers and twists! It keeps people reading, to find out what's going to happen. (The ones with most cliffies are on ff.net at the moment, I'm gradually transferring all my stuff here).

The nice, happy ending is a few chapters away yet!
