Much Ado About Nothing  by GamgeeFest 3 Review(s)

“You know, I think Cedric would look good with a broken nose,” he said. “He’s the one more likely to be put in his place if you ask me, and I for one will applaud Pervinca if she can manage it. Maybe then he’ll stop plowing through all the lasses in Tookland and leave a few for the rest of us.”

LOL!!! "Plowing through the lasses" - that's exactly what Cedric is doing all the time! He doesn't know yet that he will have a large number of lads against him and, what is even worse, for Pervinca.

I'm really curious what will happen next!

In my opinion some of the lads (NOT Cedric though) have an astonishing knowledge of a lass' mind (looks weird, is the spelling right?). They are more grown than Vinca might imagine.

Author Reply: Cedric certainly does enjoy sowing the field. ;) He's rather clueless, the silly hobbit, about just what he's creating here, but he'll find out soon enough!

Everard certainly understands lasses more than the average lad. Growing up with three older sisters, he's spent more time with lasses than his friends have - including Cedric! Even Pippin knows more about lasses than Cedric does! The others just have good hobbit sense. Even if they don't understand the way a lass's mind works, they know this is a bad idea all around, made worse because they're targeting Pervinca.

“Yes, even them,” Eglantine said. “You value honesty so much, then you listen to this. If anyone is impolite to you, it is only because you are so combative. Lads play at pranks, it’s what they do, and most lasses know to ignore them. You’re the one who has created this waking nightmare, if anyone has. The lads do something and you have to push back, and push them you do. If you aren’t careful, you’re going to end up old and alone, without ever knowing love. Is that what you want?”

Ouch - the truth can hurt a lot!
But what the lads have planned sounds even worse than Eglantine's honesty.

Author Reply: Pervinca wasn't expecting such frankness from her mother and it cut her deeper than she'll ever admit. Certainly it effected her more than Eglantine could have guessed.

Cedric isn't planning on pulling any punches. This plan truly couldn't have come at a worse time.

Alas for Pervinca--her one admitted crush having turned so sour. And am with the lads who expect to see Cedric very much bested by Pervinca! Go, gal!

Author Reply: Pervinca got burned, that's for sure. She went out on a limb and it backfired on her. It's no wonder she's so cautious now, especially with all the pranks she's had to endure.

Cedric does need to be taken down a peg or two himself! He talks about Pervicna, but he fails to realize that he's just as bad. It will be a rude awakening for him to realize that the lads are against him and not Pervinca. ;)
