The Ernil i Pheriannath Takes a Bath  by Grey Wonderer 18 Review(s)
Raksha The DemonReviewed Chapter: 1 on 6/6/2009
What a great story! The last part, with Arwen and Eowyn wondering why no one is drinking, is very funny; as is Legolas' wry line about the bowl being big enough for a hobbit to bathe in!

And nice characterisation of Faramir, who is Steward of Gondor now but will wait for his turn in the public bathing chamber just like any soldier.

Loved it.

Author Reply: Thank you! When Marigold mentioned the idea this was just what came from it. We were looking at the Royal Punch Bowl at that point and discussing Hobbits, of course. LOL

I've always loved Faramir but I haven't written much for him. I think of him as being the sort who would lead by example and to that end, would not want special treatment. I also think he would be trying to do what he believed Boromir might have done. I'm so glad you enjoyed that part of it. Thank you.

Reminds me of bathing my son, when he was a baby, in the kitchen sink at my Mum's house, many, many years ago!

Author Reply: That's sweet. I didn't think about that comparison but it totally works here. Thanks for reading!

I LOVE this. it's so funny! I can't believe that Pip would think..... wait I can believe that he would think he is dreaming the entire time

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I could see Pippin being so tired and so confused by the 'royal treatment' that he just assumed it *had* to be a dream. It was, after all, too good to be true. Thank you for reading!

“It’s a punch bowl. It’s part of the royal set. There is a ladle.” Faramir was still rather pale.
Hehehe. Pippin always seems to find himself in the middle of embarrassing situations. I loved that he was convinced it was just a dream, until Merry and Frodo dunk him. How dare they treat royalty that way! The ending was priceless. Arwen and Éowyn will have a fit of hysterics once their husbands explain why no one was drinking the punch. :)

Author Reply: Glad you liked it. Seeing that punch bowl in person and getting this little plot bunny from Marigold just set me to writing at once! I could just see Pippin bathing in the punch bowl.

I hope the woman who provided the special bath didn't get into any trouble!

And, really, Estel! After half a lifetime as a Ranger, eating dirt and wallowing in mud, I'm sure that you shouldn't reject the punch made in the well-washed golden receptacle! You've probably consumed far worse.

Author Reply: Since she was just trying to make one of the Fellowship a bit more comfortable I doubt that she got into trouble and you are right about Aragron. He really should have gone ahead and braved the punch. LOL

Funny and well written. Nice work.

Author Reply: Thank you! I owe this one to Marigold who gave me the idea and took me to see the Crown Jewels which include a certain punch bowl! Thanks for reading!

I'm wondering if this is the punch bowl:
Royal punch bowl

Author Reply: That's it! I don't know how you did it but thank you for finding it. I'll put a link to it at the end of the story. I do think it's more effective if folks can see it. Thanks so much for finding it!

You do write the best Prologues of anybody I know.

Author Reply: Maybe I could get a job writing disclaimers for real authors! Wonder what a thing like that would pay? LOL
I am so glad you like them. You are one of the folks that I keep writing them for since you always read the prologues and comment. Besides, it had now become a challenge to see if I can top the last one.

Well, THAT was just splendid! I loved it! I especially loved the moment when Faramir said, "There's a ladle." That was superb! I'm still giggling....

And I bet at some point the Thain DID get a "royal" bathtub for the Smials. :)

Author Reply: Poor Faramir! He was a bit stunned by the use of a family treasure in such a matter. When Marigold gave me the idea I was thrilled with it. It is so very Pippin!
I can see Pip getting himself a royal bath! LOL

This is hilarious! I knew it was something from the kitchens, but I didn't figure out it was the punch bowl until someone said. That ladle probably would have been handy if someone had been helping him with the bath: much easier to pour rinse water that way!

Author Reply: You should have seen the 'real' royal punch bowl! That thing is huge and it really is big enough to bath a small hobbit in! Now, I will confess that I did not see a ladle but I am just thinking that it had to have one! How else could you get the punch out? LOL
