this is brilliant!

2 completely different letters dealing with the exact same thing. it's sweet, and typical, the way he protects his little sister from the grim realities; the first letter is obviously full of humor and affection; the second is very much a report to a superior.

excellent story telling. congrats for filling two pairs of shoes at the same time!

Author Reply: Thanks! I enjoyed writing the two letters, and thinking of the different ways Elrohir would tell the same news - and what he wouldn't tell Arwen. I suspect she knows the truth though :>)

Thank you for reviewing!

Ah, so this is the REAL story. Trust him to hide the truth of how serious things might have been from Arwen. And I understand his wish to keep her safe.

Author Reply: *Grin* Same story, different details. I bet Arwen knows the real story anyway! She's no fool.

WOW - what a powerful letter! So much there... so much between the lines.

I found it most interesting about the higher altitude and breathng for the Elves...

Infested with orcs is a great phrase... tells all.

The poison's effects on Elves was interesting to read and I like the idea of there being an antidote... and that it would be shared with the Elves of Lorien... might it have been shared with Thranduil? Or is the rift too broad?

It is good to read of the struggles of the other races against the evil of the times... I've been writing so much of Gondor's struggle, that I have, like Boromir, forgotten that others fought battles also...

As for Arwen, I am truly surprised that G & C would ask for her to visit them, especially after what must have been a thorough report of the dangers of the passes between the two realms...

Great job - can't wait to read more! And thanks so much for sharing these!

Author Reply: Aragorn says in FOTR that other than the Redhorn, 'Further south there are no passes'. But somebody - and why not the intrepid twins - would surely have explored to find out? It also meant I had to find reaons why they couldn't use this route again.

In my universe, Elladan, Elrohir and Legolas are friends, so they would share the antidote with Thranduil as well. Of course, the orcs of Mirkwood may use different poisons - maybe spider venom? (There goes another plot bunny ...)

Despite the dangers, travel between the realms didn't stop - and we know Arwen spent a lot of time in Lórien. I'm quite sure her brothers would escort her, though!
