The Green Knight and the Master of Esgaroth  by Le Rouret 5 Review(s)

After a week like this one's been, taking tests and living off Diet Coke and Twizzlers, it's a real treat to come on here and see this story. In fact, I traded in my nap time in order to read this chapter (not something easily done, I assure you). So thank you for the update. It's very appreciated.

After Kaimelas' and Gimli's chat, I was highly pleased with the trial scene. I was expecting a Very Bad Man and found myself delighted with poor Ardun and all those rascally Elves. The leech's indignation, Galas' flippancy, Himbalath's steady sharpening of his blade, Hiricullas' scribbling away with inky fingers. It was so droll with all of this going on around poor confused Ardun, who probably can't even spell his own name. Legolas' interaction with Galas was especially good, especially further in the chapter when they're at the table. I loved how Legolas got stubborn and Galas angry.

What is a good seneschal to think of all this duplicity?”

“Should I have the opportunity to meet with a good seneschal I shall ascertain,” said Legolas;

Hee! That made me spit. It's a good thing Galas is older than Legolas, as I'm sure they would not be such good friends if they had grown up together.

And Gimli just watching it all and plotting away to help Legolas. I loved how very cunningly he suggested that Legolas and Bandy bring their armor. Nice.

Equally nice was that the Very Bad Man did indeed get his just deserts. Tastefully and tactfully done.

Cannot wait for more!

Author Reply: Diet Coke and Twizzlers? Sounds like my normal university diet of Dr. Pepper and Doritos.

I love Galas, and I think you're right - he and Legolas would not nearly have been as good friends had they grown up together in Doriath. If I didn't think it would bore everyone to tears, I might concoct a Galas-driven story one day.

I really enjoyed this chapter, especially Gimli and Galás. The humor nicely broke up the more serious nature of the chapter and was much needed after that last *shiver* dramatic chapter. And I'm very happy to see chapter title and numbers! YAY!

Great chappie! I look forward to more soon.

Author Reply: Brace yourself, O Thrice-blessed Beta! Chapter 8 is in the works.

I like the interplay you have between your charaters, it helps so much with revealing their natures. I am sure there will be much excitement and intrigue and it will be a fun ride. I also liked the way you summarily dispensed justice for the scourage of a man. Ah, if only our own laws worked so quickly and well.

Author Reply: I recall DL Sayers contemplating (via Harriet) that the British justice system waited a little too long to dispense with those awaiting their death penalty. Having watched my brother-in-law work the legal system for 20 years and somehow evade justice, I wanted a touch of immediate retribution. A shame indeed I can acquire it only through fanfiction.

Haha Galas is one of my favourite OC's of yours...I like that you added more of him in this chapter and showed a bit of his 'dark side' too. I was so excited to see you updated! I was worried that your last author's note meant that updates would be few and far between. I'm happy I was wrong :)
So how will Legolas and co. ditch poor Kaimelas? Perhaps when they are off walking through lovely Osgiliath Legolas will suddenly yell "Run! To Eryn Lasgalen!" and take off, leaving Kaimelas and his arrow-wound shaking his fist at their dust...
Looking forward to the next chapter (and more of Galas' suspicious mind being revealed?)

Author Reply: Poor Kaimelas! No, I hope Legolas won't treat his valet in quite so cavalier a fashion. Galas, yes, Kaimelas, no!

I'm updating as quickly as possible! Show season and flu season have coincided and I can't write as often as I'd like. But I have no intentions of pulling a P2Q on you guys.
