The Green Knight and the Master of Esgaroth  by Le Rouret 8 Review(s)

I love the Faramir/Legolas interaction here. So many stories make Legolas the lifelong friend of Aragorn starting before Aragorn even knew his true identity; and forget that Legolas and Faramir would have worked closely together to bring peace and prosperity to Ithilien. You've developed a very credible circle of friendship between Faramir, Eowyn, their children and Legolas, which enriches your stories.

The imagery in this chapter was brilliant! I loved the description of the battle with Ushtak, truly it was terrifying. I literally shuddered.
You do such a wonderful job with Legolas' and all the elves aging. You have captured--better than any other authors I've read--the eternal youth mixed with age and experience so well. In one chapter, Legolas is complaining about getting his hair pulled and having his mother dress him, and the next he is reminiscing about a battle he fought in centuries ago. The characters are all so well developed; I truly admire you.

I had a feeling that Legolas would find it not so easy to leave Kaimelas behind--but I'm so glad that Faramir was able to confirm the dream as a vision.

I have my suspicions about the serpent--but the black blood on and around Legolas disturbs me even more than Faramir's dream of his death. *shudder*

It's a shame, though, that Tamin will have to leave before he's mended matters with Fastred. Hopefully that situation too will get resolved sooner or later...

Author Reply: Well, you know me ... I'm all about resolution, aren't I? That's why I continue writing Green Knight fics - there is ALWAYS more to be said!

Thanks for the review!

Oh heck,
Now I'm a weeping sobbing mess. That was by far one of your best chapters Le Rouret. Just what I needed on a dreary raining Monday. Poor Kaimelas! I am so glad Legolas did not leave him behind. Thank you for that great scene. We're really going to have to do something with Tamin though, listening at doors will never do.
Can't wait for the next chapter.

Eliza,
P.S. you would not really be so evil as to kill off my Leggy now would you? A few "elf-owies" are allowed but that's it.

E

Author Reply: My dear Eliza, I have killed off your "Leggy" before, and nearly got lynched for it. Do you really think I'd risk that sort of injury again?

I'm so sorry I made you cry - well, not really. That's why I write - to evoke emotions. I'm glad you found it so moving. Thank you for your review!

You had me in tears in this chapter. The Kaimelas-Legolas part really got me. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Author Reply: Thank you, Candiss! I hope you like my subsequent chapters!

That was worth the wait! I can't even wrap my mind around everything that happened, as I sort of read the chapter all in one breath. It all pieced together so well--the present nightmare to the past battle to the present conversations. I'm a little afraid for Kaimelas, but I'm glad he's going.

My favorite part--made me tear up a bit--was when Kaimelas left Legolas and Faramir alone.
When I have stumbled, you have helped me up; when I am hungered, you feed me good food, and when I am thirsty give me fine wine. When I weep, you comfort me, and when I triumph, you rejoice with me.
What a beautiful statement. I love how mature these characters are. I'm so tired of stories where the characters behave like silly teenagers. It's so nice to read characters like these...improves my vocabulary, too! =)

Author Reply: "Improves your vocabulary" - all right, you made me blush! Thank you!

I actually have a very good friend who is my "Faramir." I was thinking of her, and of her rock-solid support through very difficult and trying times, when I wrote Legolas' speech in this chapter. I could never vocalize it to her quite like this without embarrassing us both ... so I put it in writing.

Wow, just...WOW.

And damnit, now we have to wait for the next part. I'd tell you to write faster but, one that would so be the pot calling the kettle black, and two I know that incredible writing can't be rushed.

Have I mentioned that I adore both your Legolas and your Faramir? Let's not forget your Gimli as well, and you know that's high praise from me.

Author Reply: Gimli-praise from Sheraiah is high praise indeed!

I'm trying to hurry, really I am. But getting a solid hour to myself, without crises and interruptions, is becoming increasingly difficult. And speaking of ... when are YOU posting next, hm???

Thanks, i've been waiting for this charpter...I'm terrified, I mean, I don't know if I can go to sleep tonight. I'm so worry now, please do not damage them too much...do not kill Kaimelas, I just hope that the arrow in his chest was a mix between past and future events, well, one can always hope...Faramir is an increible character, I really love the way that you write about him, it will be good if he can help him more, not only with dreans interpretations.
Anyway, the shears part was funny, that is when sometimes dreams can be so confusing, you just mix everything and sometimes doesn't make any sense.
Well, I don't need to tell you how I have enjoyed this charpter, that I can hardly wait for more and that you are a superb writer.
Thanks,
Fantasia

Author Reply: Thank you, Fantasia! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I don't know if you read the original Green Knight fic, in which Kaimelas sustains his chest wound. He was shot by a man in an ambush on the slopes of Amon Din and nearly died, and now his lung is hopelessly compromised. That is why Legolas turned him into a valet, when before he was a mighty warrior.

I'll give you a hint ... the shears turn out to be very significant in a later chapter. Ssshhhh!!!! *winks*
