The Green Knight and the Master of Esgaroth  by Le Rouret 6 Review(s)
EmilyReviewed Chapter: 10 on 4/12/2008
Not much action here, but the plot progresses nonetheless. Ah, confirmation from the north that the game is afoot! Durfinwen's letter is perturbing by itself--frightening once Gloin's is read. What is Thranduil doing? Why is Edlothiel an "ice sculpture"? I'm afraid that once Legolas & co. arrive, much more than an "arbiter" is going to be needed! Oh well! Nothing like a splendid little war every now and again to keep the senses keen and the blood pumping!

Poor Tamin's having a rough time of it with Fastred. It might be doable for an adult Elf to mingle with men, but I can see difficulties for the children of each race to grow up side by side. Good thing funny little Theodred is there, or Tamin might find himself inadvertently getting into hot water with/about Hisime too!

I hope we see more of Gimli and Bandy in the next couple of chapters! They're too priceless to put on the sidelines.

Author Reply: You know, you're the only reader so far to raise a question about Hisime's motivations ... I thought I was being very blatant; is it too subtle still?

"Nothing like a splendid little war every now and again to keep the senses keen and the blood pumping" - May you get your wish! And don't worry; Legolas isn't going anywhere without Gimli and Bandobras.

Thanks for the review!

Oh, how I love this story. More than I can really say. I'm not sure my heart can take where it seems to be leading. Also given how terrible those dreams are, especially with Faramir's vision of his impending death, Legolas' insistence that his small group will be enough to take on the trouble in Lasgalen strikes me as beyond foolish. I'm not sure I follow his reasoning and I suspect he will wish he had Galas and others with him before all is said and done.

Author Reply: Legolas leaps first, thinks after. He's still in his "leaping" phase!

Thanks for the review!

So Fastred is still in a bit of a snit? Normally I would sympathize but my own "precious" (I use this word loosely) is currently in a snit since he is not allowed to go to a college party with his older sibling (he's 15) unfortuantely he is making his displeasure known *sighs heavily***

I must say I really enjoy how you really seem to flesh out your minor characters. I swear Gloin's letter to Gimili is just as I imagined it would be worded and his description of Thranduil was priceless.

I'm am sending your Beta NR my vitual ovation as requested, along with my "bravos" to you.

Eliza

Author Reply: You didn't allow your 15-year-old to go to a college party? Good for you. He can "snit" all he likes; you're being a good parent. (I have a 14-year-old myself.)

Thanks for the ovation for my beta; she needs it! And thanks for the review!

I have such a bad feeling about Fastred and Tamin parting on such terms! *bites nails* You are just setting us up for heartbreak with everybody, eh? You cruel woman! Enjoying every minute of it too, I suspect. *grin*

Still love that letter from Durfinwen. So glad you worked it in and I love how it works here better than earlier.

Excellent chapter! I do hope you find time to work on chap 11 soon! I await with bated breath. *places worm on tongue and hopes Le Rouret finds writing time quickly*

*grin*

Author Reply: Get that worm off your tongue! You've re-read Legolas' first "dream chapter" too many times, ew.

Chapter 11 is written; I just need to tweak it a bit and I'll send it to you - maybe tomorrow, if I have time, but warnerharmer's new baby is getting christened and we're likely going to be at church/dinner most of the day.

I was glad to use the letter from Durfinwen, and throwing Gloin in there was a sort of added "perq."

Don't bite your nails too close about the whole Fastred/Tamin thing. At least, as my beta, you get to read what happens before everyone else does!

Thank you so, so much for all your hard work! You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

Aww...such a shame that Fastred and Tamin could not come to an understanding before Tamin left.

I wonder how Fastred will feel if he should learn his young friend is headed into danger?

I'm very amused by Hisime's tendressed for Tamin, but I have to say with every chapter, I like Theodred more and more! For some reason, he reminds me of Pippin...

Author Reply: Poor Hisime; no one takes her seriously ... I do like Theodred, though. He's becoming rather fun!

Thanks for the review!
