The Green Knight and the Master of Esgaroth  by Le Rouret 5 Review(s)

Oh, heavens! How did I miss this chapter!!?!?

I loved this journey--Tamin's talk with Legolas about forgiveness was profound:
“Forgiveness does not make the person who wronged you right,” said Legolas. “It makes you free of bitterness.”

That's so perfectly apt and true; it is hardest to forgive when one knows one is in the right and the other person wrong! It seems that forgiveness then is a offense against the truth. Yet it is probably needed most in those circumstances.

I was very pleased with the reminders of the original Quest--the mention of the Dead Marshes and the Black Gate, Bandobras mentioning his illustrious kin, Legolas and Gimli speaking of the days before they became friends. Even Legolas' dark dream about Frodo...

But I'm very worried about Legolas. And his father.

Once again your characters blow me away. They're so fully formed! It's wonderful.
I loved this chapter, and I cannot wait to see where it's going next. The dreams you describe are so haunting, I just want to know what they mean! (But I'll be patient).
I look forward to your next update!
Happy Earth Day

This chapter was very vivid. I enjoyed "seeing" the lands they traveled through--the dusty brown lands, the verdant lands beyond that with the duck pond, the edge of southern Mirkwood and the ruins of villages. It was all so very clear and precise. I especially enjoyed sitting by the pond, smelling the grass and the water and the horses and listening to the frogs, seeing the bushes quivering with birds. I can just imagine Tamin's distress at Isilme's grass stains! Beautiful wording. It made me want to run north as fast as I could to my favorite New England pond (unfortunately, I'm stuck in hot and humid Florida for another couple of weeks--plegh!).

As for the story. Little Tamin is precious. I enjoyed his talk with his Master, but I especially liked Legolas's little chat with Gimli afterward about quarrels they had had. Reminded me of my sister and myself. Then cranky!Legolas! Too bad for him, but amusing for me. I'm curious about his dream. Why Frodo? Is it because he was powerless in that instance and he feels powerless now? I hope that just as he saw Frodo "die" when he actually lived, that what his other dreams show are less dire than reality.

I love how you've woven the ring mythology into the plot. It's a nice touch for so many reasons, most notably for its resonance in Gimli and Legolas' friendship. And I am disturbed that Legolas continues to dream of his past as well as his future, but am looking forward to finding out what that might mean. Good luck with the next chapter!
