The Green Knight and the Master of Esgaroth  by Le Rouret 5 Review(s)

Thank you for another enthralling chapter.

Legolas' last thought here is worrying - if Legolas is losing his belief in a happy resolution then the situation must be bleak indeed.

You've really built up the tension, especially with the various dark dreams that Legolas has been having. I like the fact that we don't know yet whether they are warnings, guidance or if they are sent to deceive him. Certainly the dream that the chapter opens with has an evil, menacing feel to it. I hope Legolas is doing the right thing by letting himself be guided by it.

Gimli is wonderful here. Trust him to know that Legolas would want him to be discreet about the ring.

My heart's in my mouth - please don't keep us waiting too long for the next chapter!

Author Reply: Thank you, Naledi! Don't worry; Gimli will always be there to help Legolas. And as far as the dreams go ... well, we'll just have to see about that, won't we?

The next chapter is up. Thanks for reviewing!

Greetings to you and your wonderful beta!

Niri has recommended your stories many times over but in honesty this is the first of them I have read. All the same, once I started reading this fic I became hopelessly hooked; I will confess that I have been impatiently waiting for an update (logging in to this site daily and sometimes twice daily for a couple of weeks now). So I was delighted to see a new chapter here. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I LOVE this story! I wasn't sure at first about the premise of knights and jousting and esquires, valets, pages, and such, especially in Tolkien's world. Those are very medieval qualities, not something of elves I would normally have imagined, but somehow you've made them fit. I think it's the language you pull in that keeps it tight. Most of us give up on the singsong manner of speech Tolkien used in order to keep the quality of the story modern. You keep the phrasing and bend the story to it. I really am liking that approach.

And for me, the dark adventure of this story is intriguing. I will confess that pain/comfort scenarios stir me, and Legolas appears to be on the cusp of some black agonies. I can't even imagine what you have in mind for him and his mighty entourage, but it looks to be grim and exciting at the same time. I can almost imagine the snake writhing within, and I will be patient -- promise! -- to learn the realities of that.

I wonder too about Thranduil and his situation. Witchery seems to be afoot, and I wonder if some spell has been placed upon him by Renna or Malbeach or both in order that he might be so complacent. There is MUCH to be unveiled and I'm looking forward to more. Thank you for the masterful job you have done in writing this story!

Author Reply: I ... am gobsmacked.

Do you realize, Ithilien, that "The Hunting Trip" is the VERY FIRST FANFIC I ever read? And that upon reading it I was inspired to write my own? And that "The Green Knight" grew out of the realization that fanfic was fun, because after all, "The Hunting Trip" was such a great story? In short, do you realize that I owe the birth of The Green Knight universe to you and you alone? Bet you didn't ... bet you have no idea how thrilled, surprised, excited, and - yes - awed that you're reading my story. It's stunning and gratifying that you've taken the time to read it, and that you enjoy it enough to leave such a comprehensive and detailed review.

As an aside, "Free to Good Home" is one of my favorite "fanfics." Love the plot bunnies! I think you set a few free in my house, the day I was flipping through pictures and websites about LotR and saw a plug for Ithilien's "The Hunting Trip." They hooked me, and they haven't left me alone since.

Thank you, thank you for taking the time to tell me how you like my story. And I'll have to remember to thank Niri for recommending me to you. Happy writing!

My computer died, and so I missed the last update before this one. So I got two for the price of one today! Yeeha. But I'm sorry, this is going to be a short review. It's getting late, and I have to be up very early *wince* tomorrow. So. Highlights.

The dream. I think there might be hope yet! I was very relieved that there might be a way to slay the serpent. The Dwarves. I liked their comments around Tamin's speech and Legolas's speech. Their entire deportment reminded me of a coworker (a delightfully and wonderfully cranky old man) and myself. The esquire. Still so innocent. Glad to see that. The little father. Gloin is almost as grand as his son. I'm so glad to meet him in person and find where Gimli got his charm.

Here's to hoping that Galas decides to chase after his recalcitrant lord...with a very large army.

Author Reply: Yes; Legolas could use Galás right now, couldn't he? A shame he only brought a Hobbit, a young Elf, and a Dwarf with him. But he has his dreams, and Glóin is faithful at least.

Thanks for reviewing! The next chapter is up!

I hate leaving short reviews, but I have no time to go into depth. And you know how much I love this tale! Loved the dwarves and Tamin in this. And Bandy! Gosh, I love that hobbit! But Gimli once again shines here. I am very very worried about Legolas. *bites nails* Don't leave me in suspense too long!

*hugs*

Author Reply: Well, at least you get to figure out what happens before everyone else, don't you?

*hugs back* Thanks for all your hard work!

I loved this chapter! I love the 2 dwarves Nir and Ibun :D and I am glad Gloin was with them to help sort out this mess.

My absolute favorite part was little Tamin's temper tantrum! That little foot stamping about did me in :D

I cannot wait to read more and see what happens when they travel east.

Author Reply: Thank you, Candiss! This latest chapter was fun to write. I hope you don't mind going north and not east!
