A charming story of Elboron and the legendary halflings. I loved Merry's viewpoint on his great deed; and the way he and Pippin forge common bonds with Elboron via that great hobbit delicacy, mushrooms. And excellent culinary details, too, helping to flavor the story. Author Reply: Reading about their experiences in Lord of the Rings, I didn't think the heroes would quite view their deeds as glorious; more like scarier than anything they had ever experienced before, actually. Thank you for your review! :)

What a sweet Elboron! He did very well for an eight-year-old - coping with the courtesies and the unexpected excursion to the kitchens for a cooking lesson. I'm sure the 'culinary people' will provide mushrooms cooked to hobbity standards from now on. Merry and Pippin won't mind waiting for Faramir and Eowyn - not with plenty of sustenance to brighten the delay. Author Reply: Oh, I couldn't resist putting that line in! I always laugh thinking about the "culinary people" jibe in that movie. Thank you; I always love writing Elboron, for he does seem to me to be such a sweet boy. :)

This was just delightful !You can send the hobbits to cook me some mushrooms next !Elboron makes a charming host. Author Reply: I thought he would have pretty yet unaffected manners, having Faramir and Eowyn as his parents. Thank you! I'd love to have Merry as my chef too. ;)

i adored it! This was wonderful. I do hope you plan more. The more hobbit stories the better! Author Reply: Thank you! Well, no hobbit stories planned so far, but a little ficlet featuring Faramir and, this time, his daughter should be up soon.

Absolutely delightful! *drooling over the way the mushrooms were cooked* You can write hobbits very well. Thank you for this tale. Author Reply: Hee, I drooled myself, writing it -- mushrooms are just so delicious! I'm glad you think so; thank you very much. :)

Oh how cruel of your mother!! Good heavens--doesn't everybody talk about hobbits and LotR animatedly over breakfast (or second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, tea or supper)? Or at any other time? This was very cute! I love the idea of Merry and Pippin making the acquaintance of Eowyn and Faramir's son in the absence of their parents, and the conversation was very natural and hobbity. If Pippin is 39, that makes Merry 47, because he's 8 years older. (Frodo was 22 years older than Pippin, and 14 years older than Merry, and Sam was 10 years older than Pippin and 2 years older than Merry. If you can remember that part, you can always figure how old they are in any given year in your head. Pippin was born in 1390, so it is easiest to figure from his age. That means the story is in 1429, so Pip's been married to Diamond for two years!) But make your mom get that book down! (Or go to the library and get it!) I loved the way you showed them going to cook the mushrooms! That was such a hobbity thing to do! One of my early stories was about cooking mushrooms--"Missus Maggot's Mushrooms" http://www.storiesofarda.com/chapterview.asp?sid=1827&cid=7611 and I included the recipe! I do hope you write some more hobbit stories! You do quite well at it! Author Reply: Thank you for helping me out with the hobbits' ages; though there WAS a time I had written all the characters, their ages, and their birthdays (if they were mentioned) down, at the moment I could only recall Pippin telling Bergil he was 29. Sad. Er, not exactly cruel since I AM a little obsessed with LOTR right now -- more than usual, I mean -- but I intend on finding that ladder as soon as possible. I'm so glad you liked it; and though writing hobbits was surprisingly enjoyable, I love Faramir, Eomer, and their respective families too much to give writing them up. ;) Thank you for reviewing! :)

Delightful! And my goodness, you have me very hungry now for all those delicious breakfast foods (especially the ham). I suspect that this is a friendship that will last a lifetime. Author Reply: When I finally finished writing this, I found myself craving a nice bowl of mushrooms myself. Unfortunately, it was 1 AM, and I wasn't exactly supposed to be out of bed. Thanks for reviewing! I like to think Elboron formed a great friendship with Merry and Pippin too. :)
