I hope I've told you before how much I enjoy your writings. I put five (5) 'nice's all over the pages I printed, six (6) 'smilies' - where you made me laugh, one 'ROTFL,' one Hooray!, and one 'OH MY!' and a really excellent tale at the very bottom when I finished reading!!! This was such a great tale.

I loved Merry and Pippin in this, they're so amusing. And it's great that they've been the ones to find truffles and kill a boar and thereby feed the rest of the Fellowship.

A beautiful story, funny and to the same time with a really good point there. Size really isn´t everything. Enjoyed reading it. :)

Hehehe! Size is really not everything. But what happened to passing through undetected? Although, I admit, the chance of getting roast boar with truffles in this abysmal wilderness probably is worth the risk

This was a wonderful story! The characterisation was perfect for each member of the Fellowship - Gandalf grumpy due to lack of pipe-weed, Pippin with his enthusiasm, Sam and his practicality........ "It didn’t land on my truffle, did it?" Only Pip would ask such a question! "I wish I had your bow here – with Pervinca wielding it." I'd love to know the story behind THAT remark! No, no-one should ever underestimate hobbits - when it comes to finding food they are the experts.

Pippin's right - maybe the others would not miss the Hobbits so much, but they certainly would miss Sam's cooking! (And after this day they would miss both even more *grin*) Ah, the truffle-Took was great, and Merry killing the boar, too. He kept an admirable cool head in the face of this threat. Loved Gandalf being so gruff and underneath so pleased when he discovered that the Hobbits had found dinner! And I can *so* imagine the faces of the warriors as they returned with empty hands and realised the meal was ready. They will never again underestimate the Hobbits *that* much, I suppose. They may not be the most able warriors, but who can beat a Hobbit at foraging?

And such a birthday present! What a wonderful surprise to find this morning... I reckon they’d be pretty fed up if Sam were to disappear – they’d have to start cooking their own meals. Fed up! I never thought of it before, but that's a perfect phrase for a hobbit to employ. Poor Frodo... too weary for light talk. Sam changes his tune. Picnic food! (And I agree with him--would rather drink cold tea than water. My tea's gone cold, as a matter of fact, while I've been sitting here reading. Pardon me whilst I warm things up a bit.) (Dinossiel wandered by whilst I was up and usurped my chair. She commenced to read and next I knew she was laughing loud and long in delight. I believe she might leave a word of her own.) ‘I suppose,’ Pippin mused, once he had consumed the final crumb, ‘that there is something to be said for this sort of food – it takes a lot of chewing, and that makes your stomach feel that there’s rather more than there actually is.’ Ah, vintage Pippishness. Just the sort of thing to garner an automatic "None of your nonsense, Pip" from one of his Tookish relatives. Ah, yes, Merry--cautious and practical. And Pippin's blithe disregard for his cousin's sharp tongue. Gandalf, biting wistfully on the stem of his pipe. Gives him dimension and makes him more of a person, somehow. My old dad used to suck on the stem of his empty pipe when he was cutting down on the amount of pipe-weed he was using in a day. And I'm sure Pip would have an eye for likely oaks. (And Gandalf knows his Tooks pretty well, it seems, bright smiles or no bright smiles. How long did it take him to notice the "beyond" part of the limits he'd set?) good show of much-practiced, offended dignity; over-dramatically extended finger; dreamy look; distractible, ah yes, the extravagance of youth. And Pippin would be one to notice if the boar tracks were fresh or not... Brave, calm, practical Merry. Brave, equally practical Pippin. (Not to mention philosophical.) *snork* Pervinca! There's got to be a story there... (trying to imagine the scene with Merry, Pervinca, (Pippin? Frodo?) and a bow... I can just hear Vinca's exasperated, "Give me that!" as she snatches the bow away and, with a seemingly careless pull, hits the mark.) I am certainly glad it was a young boar, and that Merry so neatly dispatched it. Young will mean more tender meat, as well as less skilled in fighting and perhaps not as hard to kill as an older, larger, wilier beast. Typical of hobbits, to worry about the fate of the truffle. Sounds like a typical conversation around here, with the young hobbits. "What have you been doing?" "Nothing much." Gandalf in a good mood! *snork* (...cold hobbits huddled together under the supervision of a bad-tempered wizard... yes, especially a wizard having a nicotene-fit) Merry, a dandy! Who woulda thunk it? a litter of gambolling puppies bringing down a rabid wolf O now, there ought to be a way to write that into a story... perhaps the Fell Winter, when wolves crossed the Brandywine... I could just see hobbits' puppies being as brave as their owner... So nice, that Gandalf could find some diversion and amusement. Did he, perhaps, get a chance to enjoy his pipe after all? I mean, they had a fire going in the firepit, so... Ah, what a lovely present. Thank you so very much.
