Yep, they've done it again! Sneaky Hobbitses!
More please,

How nice to get a review after the story has been on the site for a while. Thanks.

Not sure how to do 'more' of this story, perhaps an encounter between Gandalf and Bandobras...As you possibly spotted, I've been busy considering Daeron and spooky things for Halloween

For all the serious nature of this new chapter, it's absolutely priceless! "More than meets the Eye, more than meets the eye.......they've done it again haven't they!" Yes, that they did! The end had me absolutely giggling! Yes, you cannot underestimate a Hobbit! Heh! Hooray!

This is so wonderful, of course, as I've told you before. And one can NEVER read too much Terry Pratchett!

Now, why must no one write a story in which Gandalf and Bandobras end up in a cave having to dry their clothes? (Or do I want to know?)

It's such a joy to read this again! Only eighteen with seventy-two strokes!

And who was it behind the Hobbits calling, "The Eagles are coming!" I rather think Gandalf knows more than he's telling! Heh!

And the Twins aren't shiny enough? Heh!

Oh yes, never underestimate hobbits. Like Dreamflower, I've never seen much about the Battle of Greenfields but your description had me in fits of giggles. The idea that, having dealt with the orcs, the hobbits might have been prepared to have a go at the Big People as well, and the disbelief that they were proper Elves..........

A brilliant story - and loved the 'They've done it again, haven't they?' line!

Author Reply: Baggins Babe. I'm sure that once you got hobbits in that mood (perhaps with casualties, which I have glossed over) that they'd be prepared to take anyone on. There's a line about Sam in LOTR, saying something about the 'look on his face would cause Ted Sandyman to take a step back' and that's what i sort of had in mind there.

Oh, this was absolutely the perfect epilogue for this story!

When I read the first part of this, I was so impressed! I'd never read a story about the Battle of Greenfields before, and the way in which you dealt with it was so perfectly in keeping with how hobbits might have handled the situation.

And I can see in the epilogue just how well that little lesson is remembered--at least by Elrond!

Beautiful job!

I don't know why no-one has described the Battle of the Greenfields before, but perhaps it would make a good cinematic moment in the new PJ Hobbit movie...

I really, really enjoyed your story and the characterization of the Rivendell Elves and it also gives an interesting reason why Gandalf likes and repects the Hobbits so much. My favourite line was definetely 'Well we tried but we'd hardly got into the story when we saw him looking at us as if we were mad and so we decided not to insist....'!
I also apreciate your English and that there were no obvious mistakes and your speech sounded really good.

I remember reading the first part of this some time ago - was it on HASA? I loved it then, and still love it now. The references to golf, Shire horses, Granny Smith apples, how Bandobras became known as 'Bullroarer' - wonderful.

I'm so glad you've added the epilogue! The battle of Bywater from an Elven perspective is intriguing, and I like the way the twins' instinctive call to arms rouses Rivendell instantly.

I think my favourite line is this one: '‘Oh’ Elladan’s characteristic verbal fluency evaporated, like a raindrop in the Harad sun.' It combines great characterisation with great description.

Author Reply: Jay, sorry to take so long to reply - I hadn't previously spotted how to do it. So here is a belated thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. The first part was originally on HASA, but I prefer SoA these days. Some time I'll think of another follow-up with the twins but you never know where and how the muse will strike (Glad I don't have to do this to order).
