I thought this was a very cute story. I like that it shows the 'human' and caring side of Thranduil!

Wonderful! I love the little Legolas interruption and I love Thranduil's reaction in the second scene as well. Those are powerful, contrasted as they are here. Well done!

Very nice. I really liked the first story, very cute. I think he must have been a very proud father. I thought the line; were you doing king things? was very emotional.

Imagine how embarressed Legolas must have been if his father had hugged him when he was pledging his service to his father the king!

Author Reply: Thank you! Thranduil is very proud of his son - even though he feels like tearing his hair out at times over Legolas's antics :>)

I've used the expression 'king things' before - even at a very early age, Legolas knew his father was different, and had other responsibilities.

'Imagine how embarressed Legolas must have been if his father had hugged him' *Snort* It's just as well Thranduil restrained himself!

I love this one.

Such a short time between the two events, really -- even in a human parent's life, let alone an elf's -- but there is a time and a place for everything.

I hope you'll revisit the world of Thranduil and Legolas again soon. Much as I like your stories about Elladan and Elrohir, I have missed your stories about the elves of Lasgalen and the complex relationship between Thranduil and his son.

Author Reply: Yes, a very short time - just the blink of an eye compared with the length of an elf's life.

I've enjoyed returning to Thranduil and Legolas, and it's already prompted another story with them!

Lovely, Jay. You can truly feel the love between father and son... and the pride both have in each other. I'm sure Legolas would have liked to embrace his ada right then and there as well. At least in the end Thranduil got to stop doing 'king things' so he could just play proud papa along with the rest of the fathers whose sons had become warriors that day. *grin*

Author Reply: I think Thranduil and Legolas were always very close, and had an even deeper bond after Legolas's mother died when he was ten.

Despite the formality of the occasion I had to give Thranduil that chance to celebrate just like the other proud parents, didn't I? They both deserved it.

I really had to giggle with the first part - whatever the delegation from Esgaroth was there for - I'm sure they had Thranduil wrapped around their little fingers with this comment! "The town leader smiled and bent down, ruffling his hair. “Don’t worry, lad. I can tell your Da is pleased to see you. And that’s a mighty fine drawing you’ve made.”

Oh - I'm glad you used 'that' phrase again at the ending!

Very nice moments.

Author Reply: Thranduil definitely has a weak point where Legolas is concerned - but he's no pushover! He'll still get what he wants from the Men (something to do with trade tolls, I expect.)

I like that phrase too, but don't get enough opportunity to use it! :>)

Oh, wow, Jay! Simply SMASHING! I adored Thranduil in this. And so fitting to the challenge. ADding this one to my favs! Glad to see it done and posted!

Author Reply: Thank you for reminding me about the challenge! I wrote the first part immediately, and had the image of new warrior Legolas in mind for the second part, but I just never got round to writing it.

I do love proud Ada Thranduil :>)

Hi Jay!

I wondered what you could possibly use as an example of a time to refrain from embracing... and what a perfect situation!

In both cases, Thranduil's enormous pride in his son shows through clearly. I know he is accustomed to ceremonial duties, but I could really feel the pull that he felt to embrace Legolas at the new warrior ceremony -- regardless of protocol. Good thing he got his opportunity afterward, or he would have burst!

Nice job, Jay!

Author Reply: I had that image of Legolas becoming a warrior in mind from the start - I just never got round to writing it :)

Just think how embarrassed Legolas would have been if Thranduil had embraced him! The moment will come later.

Jay, I love your Thranduil. He was so nice and understanding when little Legolas interrupted his council! And of course, Legolas himself was cute.

In the second part I felt with Thranduil - it must have been difficult to treat Legolas as every other young warrior and keep from hugging him. But I am sure he made up for that in private.

Author Reply: It's been great to write about Thranduil and little Legolas again - I didn't realise how much I'd missed them! It can't have been easy to balance the roles of King and father, and let Legolas know how much he was loved, but that there were times when he really shouldn't interrupt.

I'm so pleased you love my Thranduil. I'm rather fond of him myself :>)

Ah--so perfect, Jay! Yes--so perfect.

Author Reply: *Grin* Thank you! I rather like to see father and son together myself.
