Hidden Watcher  by Kitt Otter 5 Review(s)

Very nice! There's so little fic that takes that bit of Gollum following the Company in Moria into account.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Aragorn and Legolas were aware of his presence--we *know* Gandalf and Frodo were. And it's quite possible that the others may have become aware of it as well, for all we know...

Good job, and very atmospheric!

Author Reply: It always made me crazy wondering whether Legolas and Aragorn knew – because they at least had dealt with Gollum far longer than Gandalf.
Thanks!

Although I suspect Gollum was the one who let the orcs and the Nazgul lie in wait for the Fellowship near the rapids on the river. Capable of evil in a small, nasty way.

We know that Frodo heard Gollum, and that Gandalf and Aragorn were aware of him, and Sam became aware of him along the river. It only makes sense Legolas would be aware of him also.

Author Reply: One thing I did worry as I wrote this: that Aragorn might have been more cautious. I think Gollum hoped to snatch the ring from the Anduin after the orcs were through with the Fellowship - a feat more difficult to accomplish in Moria.
Thank-you for your comments.

Nice! I like the idea that Legolas would recognize Gollum in Moria because of his past experience with him in Mirkwood. And Legolas is extremely well portrayed in this. Very enjoyable!

Author Reply: Thanks; I am glad you think so!

I like the way you remind us of Legolas's and Aragorn's previous interactions with Gollum. It's interesting to think of all these threads being drawn together.

Author Reply: Far too many threads - it makes my head hurt. :) Thanks!

Oh, a very good exercise of the mind I see here! Faithful to the epic, and keeping with character. You've done VERY nicely, and I look forward to reading more of this thread of the tale.

Author Reply: Oh, wow, thank you! No April fooling? :) I do want to continue with a scene by the Anduin. (If that will happen, though, I don't know). Thanks again.
