While We Dwelt in Fear  by Pearl Took 7 Review(s)

Could these have been the images in Tolkiens mind as he wrote that section of the book? He was more familiar with the harsh realities of cruelty and war than most are in this day and age. Your descriptions of the pain endured and the cruelty of the orc/urukhai are real and very believable. If not pleasant. Ah well. I know they get through this, but it seems to take so much longer when told in such detail as this. Once again. Great job. Keep going!

Forgot to say, regarding the last chapter (but was reminded in this) that Saradoc's interaction with Esme brought a lump to my throat.

A small typo in this chapter: gaged should be gagged in the second paragraph of Pippin's story.

How tragic for Esme to see her son suffering and feel Pip's suffering. How sad, Pip's alone feeling when Esme pulled away.

"a team again, pulling the prank of their lives" -- lovely turn of phrase! I wanted to cheer!

Ah, the ending, such a relief. I loved the fairy's description of Fangorn.

He felt ready to give up the struggle against the pain that was killing his spirit, destroying his hope. - PT

I loved how you brought to life all the subtle little "fillers" that JRRT inadvertently left out of the three day captivity of these wonderful characters. Will Pippin ever divulge to Merry that he can feel his aunt's presence inside his head? I'm anxious to see what happens with the palantir...!

What can I say? You always possess this mysterious ability to pull me in to the story, Pearl--as if I were Esme herself! A very moving chapter from a very gifted writer! "Cullassisul"...beautiful name!

I must have missed the last update you made of this story - wouldn't surprise me; I've been so busy. These two chapters were incredible. I really liked the idea that Esmeralda was the one giving Pippin hope in a time when he barely had any. When I first started reading this story, I didn't realise you would be able to work so many scenes of Merry and Pippin into it!

That comment by the Fairy seems to suggest that you may be returning this story to the Shire once more. Very anxious to see what you have planned, bit sister.

Love how you've taken the book and then woven in esme within Pippin's mind. Just wonderful. She must have felt so helpless in it all. It comes across very well, how desperate she is and how her presence helped Pippin to continue and also helped Merry. Can't wait for more.

Oh Pearl, what a lovely passage: "They are safe now." The sound of flutes once again filled the soft voice. "The Eldest One, he who keeps the forest, will be keeping them for a time." How gentle and perfect. You're telling such an amazing story about how interwoven all of life is, no matter what form it takes.

I love how this story is going, but there are a couple of mistakes in this chapter.

". . . scuttling like a herd of beetles." A group of insects is called a swarm, not a herd.

"He chose to fain ignorance." That should be spelled "feign".

Update soon!
