While We Dwelt in Fear  by Pearl Took 6 Review(s)

WOW! Awesome chapter. So full of good stuff i hardly know where to begin. Here is a quote i found especially good. "I bet I could see home in that glass. I bet I could see how my parents are if I . . ." Ah, yes, the palantir sucking him in. offering what he most desires, a glimpse of home! Actualy, i have in mind a small story of pippin while he is being haunted by the palantir, I will keep this chapter in mind if I get around to writing it.

And this part! chilling!! Poor esme!
"It is Him."

Esme knew the voice, though it held none of its usual melody.

"It is the Dark One."

The voice quavered. The cold sank deeper into Esme’s heart.

"I cannot break the bond The Dark One has forged. I cannot. My Tookling is alone before Him."

Wonderful! So much insite given in this chapter. And as usual, sprinkled with all of that detail you are so good at including.

Oh, this is one part of LOTR that always left me feeling bereft. Poor Merry, poor Esmeralda, both worried for Pippin's safety and wellbeing.

Whew! I don't think I breathed at all, reading the last half of this chapter.

Very well done! (I keep saying that, reading your chapters... Perhaps I ought to abbreviate it to VWD)

Wonderful exposition of Pippin's thoughts, how he never imagined evil, only good. That the ball contained sunshine, and might help him to catch a glimpse of home (how the enemy seems fair and feels foul, or however that phrase goes).

Poor Esme! And poor Pippin, and poor Fairy, and last but not least, poor Merry!

(And poor me! Taking deep breaths now, getting over the dizzy feeling... and on to read the next chapter)

Ooooh! This one sent chills up my spine! Those nasty ruffians having their meeting and all, but my favorit--as always--is your connection between Esme, Pippin, and the Faerie! As the reader, *I* feel as if I'm experiencing Pippin's fears and emotions. A sign of a truly gifted writer! The palatir scene, and Merry weeping against Aragorn tugged at my heart. Beautiful, Pearl!

Your hobbits are so wonderfully interconnected. Interesting how Esmeralda had to work out exactly whose anger she was feeling. Amazing story.

Another great chapter! I was so sad for Merry at the end of this one. I wonder how Esmeralda will react now that her two lads are apart and she can only see Pippin, or can she still see Pippin after that?
