I Can't   by Antane 3 Review(s)
Queen GaladrielReviewed Chapter: 1 on 5/3/2008
Oh, Antane, wow. Just...wow.

It seems now that each time I read something new from you, your writing has improved still more. This is, quite possibly, the very best shorter fic (that is, not divided into chapters) that you've ever done. Maybe, as Larner says, the best of all your things, the very best. And the more I think about that, the more I agree with it. There were places where I couldn't tell what was Tolkien's and what had been added in by you, you know. You used all the sources you quote to great effect, and I think it worked really well with the way you did the story itself.

I love this; it goes beyond words. I feel speechless, like nothing I could say is eloquent enough. So I'll try to pick out bits.

The star-gazing at the beginning and the circle effect you used, bringing it right back around to that in the end.

The mirror image writing scene, that was just wonderful.

All the scenes in Mordor, and the movie one in Osgiliath, and the one on the Anduin were oh, so touching.

The memory of the pony games at the Free Fair. *smiles*

The blood union of sorts at the mountain--I see you finally found a way for that to work, and how perfect.

The recurring theme of tales throughout--gives it a timeless feel, or I should say augments the timeless feel already present in the whole LOTR.

The way Iluvatar's voice sounds like Sam's to Frodo. I've noticed that on occasion, that whenever I seem to hear that voice in my heart, it sounds so familiar, like a dear loved one, and yet not.

The journey to the havens and the parting there. For a moment, I felt it as keenly as if I, too, were saying goodbye to Frodo for a very long time. I haven't read many that have brought that so vividly to life. Just the little touches, the details, the lying awake and whispered I love yous...

You know, I can pick all these things out, but I really just love the whole feeling of the story. This is just amazing.
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Wow right back, ammelda - man, what a lovely review! Hantanyel! *hugs* I am so glad you enjoyed it and what an honor to think that at times you couldn't tell who was writing. As I told Larner I can't really take the credit for writing this story for I used so much from others, but doing this gave me a whole different way of viewing this particular part of the whole Story and makes me want to just sink into the whole thing again. They are such inspirational heroes. You know, I never figured out who that voice was, but that it was God's makes perfect sense and since Sam loves with God's love it would make sense it would sound like Sam.

Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

Oh there really is only one word for this one Antane - BEAUTIFUL.

And thank you so much for remembering and honouring my request my dear Antane.

Author Reply: Hantanyel, my dear harrowcat! I'm so glad you enjoyed! I know the gazing at the stars bit wasn't much but it was something and I'm glad you liked it. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Your best work yet, Antane. A definite keeper!

Author Reply: Hantanyel, my dear Larner! I so appreciate it. This story felt different to me too - as I felt so inspired by their determination to keep going despite despair, doubts and fears - and I love the idea of the power of tales in their lives and ours for we are in the same Story too. I can't really take the credit for writing such a story though.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
