The Farmer's Son  by Lindelea 4 Review(s)

Looks like Ferdi's lost the last several days which probably won't be to bad (all things considering) except for his missing ponies. Hope they don't give him another setback.

As I recall Merry, when he encountered the Black Riders, didn't lose any days; although it is possible that it was never mentioned. Could it just be a Ferdi thing?

Paladin seems to be ignoring this latest warning which doesn't bode well.

Author Reply: When I was working this out, I decided that any difference from Merry's experience could be explained by the fact that the Healing Hands worked on Merry... in addition to his experience in Bree, where I think he said it was like falling into deep water, and he didn't remember much else about the encounter with the Black Rider. He remembered being drawn against his will, I think, and Ferdi will likely remember that much, eventually.

Thanks!

It would appear that he's suffering from traumatic amnesia, a condition I got to watch first-hand in my husband. He could not remember any of the details of the accident that led to his blindness.

Author Reply: Good call! That would be very similar to what's affecting Ferdi (and Tolly, if we were to catch a glimpse of that hobbit).

Thanks!

So Ferdi seems to have lost a few days! Actually that's probably not a bad coping mechanism--save for the missing ponies, which will eventually make the whole house of cards come tumbling down.

Author Reply: Even the missing ponies might not be quite enough, but there's more on the horizon, definitely.

Thanks!

Glad to see an update to this one.

I'm worried what finally finding out about the ponies is going to do to Ferdi. He doesn't need another setback.

I'm also anxious to find out what happens when Paladin finds out about Pip and the others being gone. It's going to be interesting to see how things play out for those left behind.

Author Reply: I'm glad to say that I have written ahead in nine of the WIPs here on SoA and am trying to post a new chapter of one of them daily, rotating through the lot. One of them is two chapters away from completion, which will whittle down the number to eight. Thus, if all goes well (and that includes no more computer tantrums, which reminds me, I need to do some backups), you should see another chapter of this every week. Think good thoughts. This may be the first new year's resolution I ever managed to keep... Hope so, anyhow! Would be nice to tie up so many loose ends.

Things are going to start moving more quickly, I think, now that a lot of the background has been set in place. Hope so, anyhow.

Thanks!
