A Hunting We Will Go  by Linda Hoyland 24 Review(s)
Raksha The DemonReviewed Chapter: 4 on 8/17/2008
It is something of a comedown for the mighty Aragorn Strider Elessar etc., Heir of Isildur, Wielder of the Sword That Was Broken, King of Arnor and Gondor, and Faramir, Steward of Gondor and Prince of Ithilien, both great warriors and rangers, to be so cowed by their wives; but certainly an accurate reflection of married wife - you may have led thousands of men against the Dark Lord, but Valar forbid you come home to the wives with mud on your clothes!

Wonder if Eowyn spot-checked the Pelennor for dirt before riding forth to battle upon it. Of course, she was mounted originally, but Windfola ran away. No wonder Eowyn was nervous when facing the Witch-King - I suppose a proper Shieldmaiden doesn't get dirty!

Anyway, a funny chapter and a fine conclusion to this charming story.

Author Reply: Many thanks for making me smile with this much appreciated review. It is fun to occasionally write our great heroes as hen pecked husbands!Maybe Eowyn slew the Witch King because he got mud on her clothes?

They work hard to make the prince acceptable before returning him to his mother, but take no thought for themselves? Heh! Cute, Linda.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I think our heroes for once are just typical men!I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

This is a delightful tale, Linda, and Eldarion is an adorable little boy. It's lovely to read happy stories where nothing terrible happens and Aragorn gets to enjoy the peace he helped ensure. I can't help wondering where Faramir learned to milk a cow! Is there another tale in this perhaps?

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm pleased you enjoyed the story, and especially young Eldarion,as I've little experience of small boys.I enjoyed writing a happy story for a change. If the Muse ever tells me about the cow,I promise I'll write it down!

“Whoever would have thought that Éowyn slew the Witch King?”

Oh, joy! I just absolutely, totally adore your sense of humour. This is wonderful!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm delighted you enjoyed the humour in this tale.It was fun for me to allow Aragorn and faramir to have a good time for once!

Any excuse not to wash, eh?
"Eldarion was silent, pondering whether his chosen career was quite as good as it appeared to be." That gave me the giggles again!
Oh, and there's nothing like a nice basin of gruel, preferably made by Serle - do you put these Austen jokes in on purpose?

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.
I was actually thinking of the "Just William" books!

Ah, Gondorians are just not as good at cooking mushrooms as hobbits are! I like the banter between Aragorn and Faramir. You have such a lovely sense of humour.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I always imagine Aragorn and Faramir as fair cooks, but not up to Hobbit standard! I think writing has helped me develop more of a sense of humour,so thank you as my friends rarely say that!

What irony! Aragorn and Faramir managed to keep Eldarion clean and forgot all about themselves. And Aragorn is as wise as usual: there's nothing in life that can be compared to happy moments shared with those we love. Well done.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. It is ironic, isn't it that the men forgot about themselves? I'm delighted you enjoyed the story.

You've described such an idylic scene, Linda, that you made me wish to be there camping with them too. I'm glad they're having such a wondrous time. Aragorn and Faramir deserve it.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I feel honoured that the story makes you wish to be part of it!They do indeed deserve a nice time after all the adventures I inflict upon them!
