First Impressions  by Jay of Lasgalen 9 Review(s)

Elrond's and Celebrķan's first impressions of their sons are lovely. They must have been so proud!

Easy to imagine how the elf maid got lost in these grey eyes; I wouldn't be any different, I am sure. *sighs dreamily*

The orc didn't get much time to compare the 'children's horror stories' to the real Grey Riders, didn't he? But I am sure he realised the reality was even worse ;-)

The last one was really touching. Poor Celebrķan, how anxious and even despairing she must have been, believing her sons lost to her forever! And then the relief at seeing them on this last ship! Oh yes, I can see them race each other to the shore for this reunion after so many hundred years.

Author Reply: Thanks, Kitty! I think most of us can imagine how that elf maiden feels - *two* pairs of grey eyes ...

The orc saw a very different side of the twins - the Grey Riders must have been a terrifying sight.

I'm glad you liked the race to the shore. It was a last minute addition! Before, they were swimming - but changing it to a race altered their entire outlook and expectations.

I am normally not a great fan of drabbles, but these fit together so well, and you have managed to give an amazing amount of facettes in such a small space to create a very vivid picture of the twins.

Author Reply: I hope I've been able to convert you! I like the challenge of drabbles - fitting a story into 100 (or sometimes 200) words isn't easy. If you read more of my tales, you'll know how much I love the twins :>)

When I first saw this early this morning, I wanted so badly to quickly open it and read - for I have come to treasure your offerings - but I held myself back, for I wanted to spend time relishing your words and rejoicing in the drabbles... I had a conference to attend, so I closed the computer.

Then I waited till now...

And now - I am so completely blown away by the beauty of these moments in time, that I find myself hard-pressed to say more than... 'Oh!'

Elrond's thought of blended harmony was perfect...

Celebrian's realization that the two could only be at peace whilst touching....

I can hardly imagine how breath-taking it must have been to look upon one of these fairest of Elves... then to see another - I think I might have swooned.

One should listen to old tales... I think the Orc found this out - to his own chagrin.

And lastly - I loved the race to the shore.

Bless you for creating such wondrous moments! And for sharing them!

Author Reply: Thank you for those lovely words, Agape!

These were fun to write, especially thinking of the different viewpoints and reactions. I think we all know how the elf maiden must have felt :>) The poor orc - I think the Grey Riders would be a terrifying legend among them, and then it came true ...

Exquisite! I love the different view points! Poor nasty orc! Got his due from the Grey Riders...

Loved the maiden lost inthose grey eyes. sigh...

The last one with Celebrian seeing them again at long last was wonderful!

Author Reply: The orc was the only one who wasn't pleased to see them. It must have been a terrifying sight. And the elf maiden - I think I know how she feels :)

It must have been wonderful for Celebrķan to realise that they had finally come to join her - what a bittersweet reunion.

Lovely way to begin my weekend. I especially liked the final drabble since I firmly believe the twins did eventually join their parents.

Author Reply: 'I firmly believe the twins did eventually join their parents.'

Yes - I hate to think of them becoming mortal and dying. And of course they made the same choice!

Gorgeous, Jay. I love that not only do we get a wonderful insight into the twins but each piece is so distinct that we get a feel for the person speaking too. I'm laughing at the elf maiden!! And Elrond's and Celebrian's words were very touching. But I adore the orc's description of faces like thunder and their eyes as hard as steel *shiver*

Author Reply: Thanks, Dot - I always like it when people pick out a particular section! I feel for the elf maiden - I fear I might be the same if I ever met the twins. But the orc - he was the only one not overjoyed to see them! I think they would be a terrifying sight.

Oh, marvelous! And love the elleth's getting lost first in one and then the other's grey gaze! Heh!

As for the race for shore--oh, but I can so see it!

Wonderful, Jay!

Author Reply: Thanks! I can picture them diving into the sea too - and can identify with the besotted elf maiden :>)

The last drabble was my favorite. Good job, I always enjoy your writing about the the twins.

Author Reply: I always like to know which parts people like best! I'm glad you enjoyed this.

These are wonderful. I love how the twins' stories here begin and end in perfect harmony and companionship.

Author Reply: Thank you! Although Tolkien didn't tell us their final fate, I'm sure they both sailed when Aragorn and Arwen died.
