Aspects of Aragorn  by Inzilbeth 6 Review(s)
Silivren TinuReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 11/4/2009
That's a really beautiful beginning, Inzilbeth! I especially loved the moment when Eärendil appeared over the far horizon. It's a really heartwarming thought that he might have acknowledged his distant descendant in such a way. :)

P.S. I've finally arrived at your story while making my way through the heap of to-review MEFA stories, so you're going to hear from me more often from now on!

Author Reply: Oh Almut, I'm delighted and honoured that you're reading my story. I do hope you enjoy it and I very much look forward to hearing from you. I'm glad you liked the opening chapter. I wanted to include at least a nod to Aragorn's distant ancestor as I felt it rather underpinned the fact that he would have his own great journey to make in time.

Thank you so much for your review.

I was really looking forward to reading this story. I like how you connected the pieces of informations about Aragorn to the complete tale – a tale that I always longed to read. And your telling of it reads effortlessly. I admire the ability to write long passages without action, that are not boring, but contribute to the story by adding vivid detail. And in this chapter, I love the slight irony of “the child would be named Aragorn and thus would he be known ever after.“ If Ivorwen knew how many names her grandson will carry… =)

I didn’t have much of internet access during the summer, but I downloaded to story to my computer before, so I was able to read it. But I didn’t want to shorten you of the reviews, so I’ve written them down after finishing each chapter, as I do normally. Sometimes I had more to say, sometimes just a few words, but I tried to be sincere. But I don’t want to throw a load of review at once on you. So I will post three reviews in a day – if you don’t want to receive them all at once, of course. If you do, just say so =)

Author Reply: Mirach, I'm absolutely delighted and honoured to know that you're reading my story. I'm sure your reviews will be more than welcome any way you care to send them that is easiest for you.

This was very much the story that I wanted to read too and as Tolkien never wrote it, I finally had a stab at doing it myself! I so hope you enjoy it and I'm very pleased to know that at least so far you find it easy to read.

This works really well as a prologue since it's entwined with visions of what will happen throughout the rest of his life. That Ivorwen would think because of the Elessar vision that even Aragorn (whom we fans normally know him by) was the wrong name for him made me smile.

A truly nice piece and one that made me remember how even the Great must start out as small and vulnerable babes.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked this prologue. I wish I had thought of it BEFORE I started posting the rest of the story!

I wonder what Ivorwen would have said if she knew just how many names Aragorn actually ended up with!

Yes it is hard to think of Aragorn as a small baby.

I really loved this prologue of yours. Having Aragorn's naming day at the start of your story, and letting us have a glimpse of Arathorn was a wonderful idea. To my mind your Ivorwen and her visions of Aragorn's future are just about perfect. I do hope you manage to fit her in one of your future chapters so that we can have the pleasure of witnessing her happiness when her foresight comes true.

Furthermore, I loved to see the Rangers and The Dúnedain of Arnor having something joyful to celebrate at the very beginning of your series, and found Aragorn voicing "his disaproval as loudly as his little lungs were able" so very sweet.

Thank you for such an enchanting Christmas present.

Author Reply: I'm thrilled you enjoyed this tale, Estelcontar.

I've been wanting to turn that quote from HoME into a prologue for some time but nothing would come, then suddenly, there it is, demanding to be written LOL!

Aragorn's birth must have been a great source of joy to the Dunedain though quite what they all made of Ivorwen's comments, we'll never know.

Thank you so much for your review.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I wonder if Ivorwen lived longer than her daughter to see her visions come to reality?

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Laire, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I hope Ivorwen lived that long too.

Oh, how tragic to see only a continued "tragic descent" for this noble people. You bring us Ivorwen's foresight very well; I wonder if she or any of her generation possibly lived long enough to know of Aragorn's crowning as King?

Author Reply: Thank you so much, Shirebound, for your review. Things must have looked very bleak for the Dunedain with virtually no hope of any change in their fortune. And that's a very good question; one I'm working on in a later chapter at the moment!
