They do not know what the Shire loses as Frodo leaves it.

If truth be told, Of course, I would welcome another ode Maybe when they meet Wouldn't that be sweet! Now Celeritas wants the story in song too So that is a hint to you! :) Dooesn't have to be full of woe That tears at the heart so It can be hobbits having fun Out in the bright sun! For there were many such days Before the Shadow came to take joy away Or it could be after the Shadow has left And Frodo and Sam are no longer bereft Namarie, God bless, The impish, insatiable Took :)

Wonderfully done, Maureen! Sam did not see it coming for a very long time. Only when they were already on their way he finally understood. That's exactly what happened to me when I read that chapter in the book for the very first time. After re-reading it I found that there are many earlier hints (sometimes given by Frodo himself) that he will leave Middle Earth. And if sweet little Elanor had not been there to lighten Frodo's mood, he possibly would have left much earlier. Thank you for posting!

It seems he’s once more on the mend The Ring will never comprehend That even as it sows its seeds His Sam is here to choke its weeds * * * Oh, dear cousin mine The above are my favorite lines this time You are so kind to me to spoil I do appreciate all your toil! They did try so hard to put to rest All the pain caused by so severe a test But not in the Shire was there to gain Healing from such dreadful pain Sam did his very best, gave his heart But it was doomed from the start Healing would not come even from a child Elanor, so fair and mild It was only in the West Could Frodo hope to put his pain to rest It was through tears That they would see the way through fears But through they would come, free at last, All the pain would be passed! Maybe you should not have opened the door For now I only long for more But now the door is open, I do not have a moment's sorrow I can always hope for more in the morrow! Namarie, God bless, the insatiable, impudent, cheeky, greedy Took! Author Reply: Hello Aunty, How sweet you are to rhyme for me your kind words I was pleased to see displayed in such beloved form it's made my heart glow bright and warm i know their parting was a test but Frodo really needed rest from all his woes and all the pain but he will see his Sam again You may wish for another rhyme of Sam and Frodo's painful time together after ended Quest But from such angst I need a rest I will however not dismiss (for that would really be remiss) the chance to pen a jolly ode that takes us down a happy road So hopefully you'll read that too I'll dedicate it just to you I'm not too proud to bribe, you know so thank you dear, now I must go All the best! I had to laugh at that dedication... This was a good summary of the year-and-a-half-ish in which Frodo made up his mind to sail--and the title was fitting, too. Somehow I have the feeling that eventually you're going to have an entire saga of Frodo and Sam's lives written out in verse! Author Reply: Hello Celeritas, Thanks for R & R -ing! To tell you the truth, it feels like the poem was galloping through those 18 or so months, but I suppose at roughly 30 verses, it's long enough to give people the general idea. Glad you thought it was good anyway! I'm afraid your prediction of a saga may be inaccurate - that was the last of my (self-proclaimed) 'Doom and Gloom' Ringbearer ditties. From now on its prose or more light-hearted odes! Yipee! Thanks again for your support (By the way, have you told the Terrible Trio off for me yet? I'm still v. annoyed at them!). M ;)
