I am new to this site, but I was very excited to read your story because I'm hooked on Maeglin. I'm not sure why, I guess the way he is written in the Silmarillion shows an intensity about him that other elves don't have. I really enjoyed this story, and I was very glad to see that you do not condemn Eol outright. I think that this was a complex situation and he was in a difficult spot, and I like how you show that he is only trying to keep his family together. Your characterization of Eol is sympathetic to him and lends him more depth, which is wonderful. I think the exchange between Idril and Eol in his prison is very good. I had never really understood the foreshadowing of Eol's last words, that he knows Maeglin will die just as he did, so I think the idea that Eol had a vision is very believable. This is an awesome story and gives a great new take on one of my favorite parts of the Silmarillion!! Thank you!! |
