What a mighty entrance to a tale! Amazing idea to intertwine story and poem that way. Respect!

Author Reply: Thank you! It's a lovely song, and I had such an interesting time playing with the contrast.

Definitely a distraction to regret. How terrible!

Author Reply: Ah, guests do not always show up at opportune times...

What a great opening chapter! This is a promising and unusual scenario for keeping Estel out of the way of the dwarves from the often given reason of his being on a hunting trip with his brothers. Your Elrond is an absolute treat; his love and devotion for Estel adorable. He is every bit the wise and kind lord that we expect him to be. I confess I've never imagined Gilraen to be jealous of Elrond so it will be interesting to see where you take this. I'm very much looking forward to more.

Author Reply: Well, a hunting trip would be more fun for the poor child... but whatever the means he must have been kept well away from the large crowd of strangers!

As for Gilraen, I know I've taken an unusal tack with her. Still, I hope it will indeed prove interesting.

What an intriguing beginning!

Poor little Estel, so sick, and Elrond, so worried! This is a very interesting idea of what could have been going on during that long ago visit by a wizard, 13 Dwarves and a hobbit.

I loved the entwining of the wood-elves songs in with Elrond's worried thoughts-- an excellent device to show the contrast between what was seen by their guests and what was going on behind closed doors.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad you liked my use of the song. Guests are often unaware of the undercurrents of tension in the home in which they stay; it is the mark of a good host to keep them in blissful ignorance. Of course, Elrond has other motives for secrecy, too...
