Seasons of Gladness  by Raksha The Demon 8 Review(s)
Linda HoylandReviewed Chapter: 1 on 11/30/2009
I'm glad your drabble Muse has paid you a visit. I enjoyed these very much, especially the image of Aragorn and Faramir on the mountain. Faramir truly is a man for all seasons!

Author Reply: Yes, Faramir is a man for all seasons; thanx for reading and reviewing and beta-ing, Linda. I wonder why you preferred the last drabble, LOL....

Hi Raksha - Elena Tiriel pointed me to this series, and I'm so glad she did. These drabbles are just beautiful. I love the way that you haven't just referred to the external seasons in which the drabbles are set, but also the seasons in Faramir's life. As always, your choice of language is a joy to read! Thanks for sharing.

Author Reply: Coming from such an accomplished drabblist, Tanaqui, this is high praise indeed. My inner metaphorist (spelling?) jumped at the chance to work with my inner Faramirist in the series.

Thanx for reading and reviewing!

Beautifully done! I loved the framework of using seasons to show vignettes from all of Faramir's life. Bittersweet yet joyful, just like life.

Author Reply: I like writing patterns and seasons, and the four seasons do lend themselves to different chapters of the human life cycle. Tolkien himself seems to have associated Faramir with spring and perhaps summer - casting him as a Green Man of sorts, wearing green and ranging through the forest of early spring, and later speaking happily of green and growing things, and then becoming the first Prince of Ithilien, a place of forests and rivers and hills.

Thanx for reading and reviewing, Cairistiona!

Beautiful, and most poetic drabbles. Well done, indeed.

Author Reply: My drabble-muse and I thank you for reviewing, Estelcontar. I'm glad you liked the series.

VirtuellaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 11/29/2009
Oh, Raksha, this is truly beautiful! Each snippet is so simple and the imagery so crisp and vivid. I like how naturally the seasons of the year and Man's life fall together here. Every word seems just perfect. Can I put it on my MEFA nominations list for next year?

PS: Boromir's head "like a great bull seal" - LOL!

Author Reply: I'm pleased that you liked the quartet so much, Virtuella; and honored that you'd like to nominate it for the 2010 MEFAs - of course you can.

Writing drabbles forces naturally verbose writers like me to pare moments, events, vignettes, down to their most important elements. Not easy, but a rewarding exercise. Thanx for reviewing!

Fantastic, Raksha. Indeed, joy in all seasons, and reason for thanks given!

Author Reply: Thanx for reading and reviewing; Larner. I do think Faramir is good at perceiving and cherishing important things, during good times and bad.

These are beautiful!

Author Reply: Thanx, Dreamflower; drabbles aren't easy for me, but sometimes the Muse is kind. Glad you enjoyed the series.

That's a beautiful series. When a person can give thanks at each stage of their life, it's a life well lived.

Author Reply: Thanks, Shirebound; I think Faramir is someone who is used to treasuring moments of joy; and thankfully, after Sauron's defeat, he was able to personally experience many more of them.
