The style here reminds me of the lighter moods to be found in The Hobbit and Farmer Giles of Ham. Nicely written, M!

Ah! How well you have caught his terrible vanity and the fitting nature of his own destruction! Well done, M!

After so many years I finally found a very good reason why Frodo had not been touched by the Barrow Wight when he awoke: orders from the Witch King! In my opinion this POV worked very well. Thank you for writing!

Very nice my dear cousin! I hadn't thought of that connection before, a song of death defeated by a song calling for aid from one alive. The POV of the wight was well done. Namarie, God bless, Your bloom :)

But things got worse, much worse, when a second voice replied... Love that. Nicely done! Author Reply: Hello shirebound, glad you approve! Good old Tom to the rescue, eh> Frodo was a bit of a macho-hobbit in this scene from the book, though, something which never struck me until I researched this chapter. Thanks for R & R-ing, M ;)

He had not been slain by a lone archer, he had been slain by his own pride. Very well done! I liked the titles Smaug gave himself and The Thief. The last title was the best: Smaug the Fool, Master of Vanity Author Reply: Hello Andrea, *grins* I'm smiling at your lovely review. So glad you liked Smaug's titles - most of them were given to him by Bilbo when they were talking with each other back in the Lonely Mountain, and it seemed prudent to use them in this chapter to carry on the feel of 'The Hobbit'. Thanks very much for R & R-ing, M ;)

Sorry to be so long in getting to this delightful little piece, my dear cousin! Too cute. I love the way you describe Smaug with all those titles, taking after the little thief himself. Interesting that the worm realized he had done himself in. His death will be a wonder to see in the film. Raved about you to a dear friend I had lost touch with since you have graced us with your presence and stories so hopefully you will be earning a new fan soon. :) Namarie, God bless, Your bloom :) Author Reply: Hello m'dear, sorry to take so long in replying! I tried to keep with the spirit of 'The Hobbit' in this latest chapter. You know; more childlike (to an extent) in its narration, etc. So glad you enjoyed the result! I am so happy to hear you got in touch with a long lost friend :) Being able to renew a friendship after such a passage of time is one of life's truest pleasures! And it was lovely of you to recommend my writing while you were doing so! Thanks very much, m'dear. And thanks for R & R-ing, M ;)

I thought all of these stories were really good, I liked the idea of the last moments and thoughts of these evil beings who thought they were invincible. My favorite was the Witch King and Eowyn, but only because it is a particular favorite scene in both book and the movie. Hope you will decide to add Sauron's final demise to this set. Author Reply: Hello BeeGee, do you know, I really love the Witchking scene too - simply because I love to see Eowyn (and Merry) kick some Witchking ar*e when all those manly blokes who are so keen to keep her 'in her place' could never hope to touch him. There's a lovely sort of justice in that ... *sighs contentedly* Thanks for R & R-ing, Kara's Aunty ;)

Hello there - read the original post and enjoyed it very much - just haven't had time to leave reviews lately (month end @ work is crazy and haven't spent a lot of time online). Sorry that the lack of reviews bothered you enough that you revamped the story a bit...but I have to say...I like the revised version even better! I can't speak to canon, as I haven't read The Hobbit (yet) but the 2nd version seemed to flow a little better as I read it. It's not that the first didn't flow...the second just seems to flow more smoothly. Always enjoy your writing! Author Reply: Hello Ainariel, actually, I agree with you: the redraft does flow better. And it seemed to trigger feedback too, thank goodness, because I was beginning to despair at my apparent inability to elicit readers' interest! Thanks very much indeed for R & R-ing, Kara's Aunty ;) PS forgive the delayed response. AM just recovering from a nasty chest infection.

You ask what's wrong with the Smaug story??? Absolutely NOTHING, that's what! KA, I sooo enjoyed reading each of these! Seeing stories about creatures of the Dark is a real treat, since they are not often written of... but when the stories are from the point of view of those Dark creatures, that's something extra special! I love how you put yourself into the *ahem* shoes of the creatures themselves; their thoughts and reactions seem just right for the situation. And, of course, you picked situations that we know just enough about to interweave canon seamlessly with your own fertile imagination. And your language is vivid. You make even the introspective musings interesting, and I love the little bits of wordplay you used ("tall, Dark and..."; I so wanted to add "handsome? not so much..." LOL!) All in all, a very enjoyable series that I hope you continue as the muse strikes you... there's that pair of quarrelling Orcs in Mordor, for example.... Very, very nicely done! - Barbara Author Reply: Hello Barbara, your feedback really made my day! I had been so disheartened at the time that no one left a comment ... As a writer, it's so frustrating when you post something and it appears to leave people so indifferent that they can't even be bothered slating it! *wry chuckle* But I thank you not only for reviewing, but for giving detail about what worked and what you personally like. That's really helpful :o) Thanks very much for R & R-ing, M ;)
