A Deck of Heroes  by Larner 6 Review(s)

Sam spotting the star or Earendil is perhaps one of my favorite passage in the books, and it's heartening that Earendil was able to hear not only Sam's thoughts but those of his friends as well, and to bring hope when all other light has failed.

Author Reply: I think we all love that scene, GamgeeFest. I was so glad they included it in the extended version!

And Earendil had to have grown into his role as the Star of Hope over the milennia!

Oh, it had to be very difficult for Eärendil to be able to see what happened in Middle-earth, but not being able to interfere, to help those he loved! Glad he could at least give some hope with his light.

Author Reply: I so agree. I admit to having been partially inspired by the fic posted here a few weeks ago in which we saw Earendil trying to pelt the orcs pursuing Aragorn through the High Pass, and in the end helping lead Elrond to his foster son's side by shining particularly brightly on the rocky hollow where Aragorn had hidden. And he was, after all, the Gil-estel, the Star of High Hope.

Thanks so very much.

poor earendil - so powerless and yet so powerful. It must be tough to be him...

Author Reply: Indeed so--he cannot be physically present, yet finds ways to indicate that hope yet remains. Thanks so, Ellie.

Of course.

What other figure could be the Charioteer? I like this picture of Earendil.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you do. An enigmatic individual, Earendil; but in the end an endurung one who helps others to endure as well.

there is nothing that he can do to aid those he would so favor save to be what he has become--to shine out the brighter against the darkness

Wonderful. And I really like how you reveal that he is patient, not dispassionate.

Author Reply: I am glad that was conveyed, Shirebound. He was of the mortal community once, and came from Middle Earth; he knows the kinds of distress felt by these! He must wish to aid them as he can.
