Wicked Thieving Elf!  by Ellie 5 Review(s)
AlassielReviewed Chapter: 1 on 12/29/2009
Greetings Ellie,

What a lesson for this young elf, and one which I hope he will take to heart. What he did was indeed wrong, but it is difficult to compare it to the actions of Feanor’s sons. As humans, thieving and killing other humans are unfortunately far from uncommon, but such deeds are rare among elves and therefore shocking. As Tolkien points out somewhere, though individual elves could and did do evil deeds, they are, as a race, unfallen.

Thank you for this cautionary tale.

Blessings,

Alassiel

Author Reply: Yes, he did learn a hard lesson and one that he will remember.

It is far too bad what the sons of Feanor have done with their lives, and in the morning he will NOT see his friends, unfortunately.

At least his parents are alive and will recover. Alas!

Author Reply: It is sad to see the far-reaching impact of the choices the sons of Feanor have made to detriment of all.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

hello Ellie, what a touching and at the same time sad story. What a great idea to describe the attack on the havens from the POV of an elfling. My knowledge about LOTR is not that great but did I miss something? Dearadar Glorfindel?!?
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Lai

Author Reply: There is nothing that says that Glorfindel had a family in Gondolin or didn't have a family there, so I figured I'd give him one. I think he would have been proud to have a grandson, but maybe not that pleased with how mischievous this grandson is :-)

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!

Wow! Poor elfling, I liked his POV. What a difference one day can make. The build-up of tension in the second part was very good! I was afraid naneth was dead for sure, glad she wasn't. I liked the idea of this version from the "victim's" side, usually fanfiction set in Sirion is either Elrond/Elros or from the Feanorian POV. Good job!

Author Reply: What a difference indeed! And the little elfling had no idea...I'm pleased that the build up of tension worked so well. I hoped it would. My kids liked it, so I hoped grown up children would, too.

Interesting scene. Excellent use throughout of the child's point of view and his typical young-child logic.

It was obvious from the mentions of wetness, stickiness, stiff clothing, etc., that the parents were bloodied and probably wounded. However, you might consider mentioning the *smell* of blood, which must have been considerable -- if not overpowering. Would it be a smell Galanor was familiar with (if only from butchered meat)? Or would it be a strong but unfamiliar smell, or one he couldn't quite identify?

Poor Galanor won't be seeing his friends the twins for awhile. And that won't be the only change he finds in the morning....

Author Reply: Thanks for the compliments on viewpoint! I had hoped it would work well. I pity the little guy, too, when the morning comes and realises what has happened, especialy when Elrond and Elros aren't there to play with any more...

Thanks for the suggestion on the smell of blood. I hadn't considered that before.
