Love this story. Poor Gimli! I'm glad Pippin sees him as a friend!

Bravo! A wonderful story, Thevina. Dreamflower recommended it and I'm glad she did. You write a wonderful Gimli. Thank you for a good read. Author Reply: Many thanks! I am truly stunned at the warm reception this gapfiller has received. I'm indebted to Dreamflower for the recommendation! Thank you for letting me know that you enjoyed this look into Gimli's feelings while in Khazad-dûm.

A very thoughtful look at Gimli in Moria. I'm sure he knew by then that there was no chance that his relatives were still living there... how sad! But his dwarven senses are well-suited to the environment, and his sense of foreboding is telling. I was glad to see Gimli enjoying Pippin's company. Nicely done, Thevina! - Barbara Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm frankly overwhelmed at the responses I've received to this vignette. Makes me so happy that I have two more Gimli-centric gap-fillers lined up to write in the next few weeks. :) I did really feel for him in this; canonically he admits to Gandalf that he's filled with foreboding. I can only imagine how alone he felt in admiring the work of his distant relatives even as he recognized that he wasn't safe there. Gimli's relationship with Pippin is such a fun one to write about, helped along by JRRT himself. Of the next two I have planned, one will focus on his friendship with Legolas, the other with Pippin. The fact that it's Gimli who finds Pippin after the last battle to me is the culmination of of that bond. I so appreciate your warm review!

This is very nice. I like your characterization of Gimli. Author Reply: Many thanks! I have quite a fondness for Dwarves, Gimli in particular, so I'm grateful that my take on him was appealing.

I have thought a number of time how it must have felt for Gimli - the slow realisation that if there were dwarves here then they would surely be aware of the Fellowship, must surely have approached them. I think that sounds a very dwarf-like breakfast... and I really like the way that you write the growing relationship between Gimli and Pippin. Author Reply: Yes, it's pretty tragic all the way around. For him to realize that he might be the only Dwarf in Khazad-dûm I suspect would hit him hard. I'm pleased that you think the breakfast seemed appropriate! And also that you enjoyed the Gimli/Pippin interaction. I have as much fun exploring that bond as I do of that between Gimli and Legolas. Thank you for your kind words!

A wonderful look at what Gimli's thoughts might have been, there in the halls of his relatives. I also loved his observations of Pippin, and the growing friendship between him and Gimli! Author Reply: Thank you so very much! Tolkien scatters little gems about the friendship between Gimli and Pippin in particular, and I really enjoy elaborating on that. Thank you for your kind words about this vignette!

I'm glad he answered Pippin's question. And it's sad to think of a Dwarf realizing the loss of dreams known here. Author Reply: I do hope that that's really what Dwarves would eat for breakfast! I do imagine they are fairly hearty eaters. ;) I'm so glad that this resonated with you and that you were moved by Gimli's sense of loss.

This is a wonderful gap filler. You bring us into Gimli's thoughts and spirit beautifully, and his growing bond with Pippin really shines through. Author Reply: I so appreciate your kind words! I've enjoyed writing about Gimli's bond with Pippin almost as much as his friendship with Legolas. Tolkien scatters tantalyzing hints of how fond Gimli is of Pippin and I really have fun expounding on them. Thank you for reading and for your review! Author Reply: Thank you very much! I thought I replied to you this morning, but it seems to have vanished. :( Regardless, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed this little gapfiller. Forgive the pun, but JRRT really does scatter jewels about the unique bond between Gimli and Pippin and I'm anticipating writing about that again in the near future. I really appreciate your reading and reviewing this!
