Moon Over Water  by Avon 6 Review(s)

A beautiful tradition, and one that allows Faramir to know that his brother now has his own part to play in this ethereal tradition. How beautiful to see this brought new here!

Author Reply: Thank you. I always intend to post my stuff here, but usually think I'll wait until I'm sure it's final draft... and these days I just never get back to it.

What a beautiful story! I just loved this .It felt like wandering in a dream to read it.

Author Reply: Thanks, Linda. Take me on a moonlit possum spot and this is what I come home with ;-)

It's a treat to see a story from you, Avon!

This is a very atmospheric piece.... I see the fading of the splendor of the ghosts as parallel to the fading of Gondor's splendor....

It seems fitting that Faramir would keep that tradition, and that he would at last see his own brother, who introduced him to it as a child.... it must have been comforting that Boromir was still doing what he did best, protecting Gondor.

The other-worldliness of this story left me feeling a bit... erm, spooked, so to speak.... and shivery.

Very nicely done!

Author Reply: Thank you, Barbara. It isn't actually a new story - but it's only been on my LJ and I finally got organised to post it here. On the other hand, I am actually writing a new LOTR story atm. I wish I still wrote more.

I see the fading of the splendor of the ghosts as parallel to the fading of Gondor's splendor....

Yes! I think so, or maybe more broadly the fading of Arda itself.

Thank you so much for the feedback.

What a beautiful piece, and what a perfect ending.

Author Reply: Thank you! Boromir, Faramir and often the Anduin are themes I don't seem to be able to escape from. (Not saying I'm trying.)

What a beautiful and haunting little ficlet! I love the way that the descriptions are so detailed in the beginning of the story but then fade away as the story continues. It really does feel like a dream in which it's unclear what is real and what isn't. And I love the fact that Faramir keeps this tradition as much as he is able, even though it's not something that he's inclined to pass down to his son. It says a lot about Faramir and how he's so intent in hanging on to things that might not have a place in a war-ravaged country. The ending was wonderful, with some nice closure for not only Faramir as a character but for the fic as a whole.

Author Reply: Thank you. I really appreciate the feedback. it's unclear what is real and what isn't Thank you - that was exactly what I was aiming at. I have my own beliefs about what is real and what is not in this fic, but deliberately didn't make that clear.

peace walks with him and comfort guides his steps

How lovely. This is a beautiful, haunting, poignant tale. Of course Faramir, who kept alive the Standing Silence, would keep this vigil. I hope he does tell Elboron. Magic, however elusive, should never be forgotten.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm really pleased you liked it. I think it is very Faramir to keep up this sort of tradition.
