What a great gap filler. This story brought to life the weeks of captivity in Thranduil's halls where Bilbo is "free", but still unable to help his comrades. I love the characterization of Bilbo. It sounds just like I imagine him to be. Author Reply: I haven't written a lot of Bilbo before, but he's really a fun character to life. There's a hobbit practicality to him that justaposes directly with any adventure, and then there's this loyalty and this Tookishness that keep the adventure going. Great fun, all around. Thank you for the comments!

I love this. Is there more? I know how they escape, but your are filling in all the cracks and spaces around Tolkien's writing. I really like the stories that fill in the blanks that Tolkien leaves. (Although I always thought he had reams more to the whole story, but the editors chopped it out.) Oh, and by the way, if you write more, does Bilbo encounter that golden haired elf again? (Not the King, you know who!) Author Reply: Actually, I'd kind of planned to leave it where it is. Tolkien does a pretty good job of describing how the dwarves were pressed into barrels while Bilbo forgot that he needed to get out himself. As for that golden-haired elf... Let's see, who was that? I know I had someone in mind, but the name is just so elusive... Many thanks for the review!

I always enjoy reading your stories. Here is yet another beautifully crafted tale. And a pleasure to read too. I love the dialogue, the wit and the turn of phrase. You really have a talent for discovering those 'unfinished' or rather 'left out' tales that are in Tolkien's books just waiting to be discovered. I wonder can I tempt you? You know that part of the Lord of the Rings when Aragorn takes the Paths of the Dead and we see a skeleton lying at a doorway. What was that bony finger pointing at? What untold story lies behind that door? Might I invite you to step across that forbidden threshold sometime and take us there? Hmmmm. Author Reply: Thank you so much for your review! This "left out" tale actually came from Dreamflower, but I definitely had fun exploring it. As for that plotbunny you flung my direction... Actually, it sounds like an interesting Halloween story. I'll have to give it some thought.

Ah, our poor Bilbo--all the Dwarves want him to meet their expectations and do what THEY would do--and he's but a single HOBBIT! Heh! Author Reply: A single hobbit, yes, but an ingenious one. I think he'll manage if given enough time to work it all out. ;)

I do love this story so much! Glad to see it here as well! Author Reply: Many thanks for the prompt! I wouldn't have explored this gap otherwise!
