An excellent portrayal of Sauron's thoughts in the last moments before the destruction of the Ring! Your insight into his personality and motives was chilling....... and very accurate. Many thanks for this vignette! :) Author Reply: Thank you very much for compliments! It is much easier to have insight into a character that is not described only from the point of view of his enemies, and quite unusual to change this point of view, so I'm really glad if I managed to do it truthfully!

Really interesting vignette! I have never really wanted to hear Sauron's point of view because it seems like it would be so foul - but I was drawn in by your story and found it very interesting - especially the comparison between Aragorn and Finrod Felagund (who has always been my favourite Tolkien character). I always imagined that Duel of Songs (as it's describes in the Lay of Leithian especially) must have been something truly terrible to behold. I'm glad that Sauron remembered it! Maybe it will help him repent in the end, if there's any hope of that left. Nerdanel Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm really glad I made you listen to Sauron - first I had to make *myself* listed to him... and at the end, I found out I have pity for him, despite all he has done... The Duel of Songs is one of the most powerful parts of the Silmarillion to me. Music has such a great role in Tolkien's word - it created it and sustained it, it was a source of hope and healing... and even a weapon in such a glorious fight. That's something one can never forget...

Unfortunately, an all to likely series of final thoughts for the foul thing! He could have been so much, and in the end fell with his Ring and Gollum! Author Reply: Thank you for the review! I'm glad you find it believable! Foul thing... but at the end, I had to pity him.

But you are no fool. You are a brave man, I must admit that. Maybe you will bring the order I craved into Middle-earth. This is beautifully written. A really marvelous piece. What a fascinating way to 'see' this event! Author Reply: Many thanks! I'm really glad if I succeeded in my goal to show the events from this perspective!
