In Darkness Bound  by Fiondil 6 Review(s)
FinrodbrsReviewed Chapter: 92 on 12/5/2011
Thanks to storiesofarda's homepage excerpts from Tolkien, I recently remembered something from the Silmarillion. I have to say, using Arafinwe's collar to make his crown is rather fitting, especially because at the end of the War of Wrath the opposite was done to Morgoth.

Author Reply: Hi Finrodbrs. And oddly enough, I'd forgotten that little detail about Morgoth (or maybe my subconscious was at work here) but I just felt it a fitting gesture on Arafinwë's part to have the collar turned into a crown, which could be seen as a different type of collar. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

It explains a lot. It definitely explains, how Arafinwë has became the excellent ruler, we all know from the another stories. All his self-assurance, his firm believe that he is surrounded by love, that he will muddle through .... I like the symbolisms of the crown/collar. Very true.
And I love the way the amused Valar are looking at him, while he is jumping up and down, not wanting to waste any more time, after all the time he has spent by wallowing in self pity.

Author Reply: Hi Serindë. It does indeed explain much about Arafinwë. And the symbolism of the crown/collar is probably truer than people realize and it's a pity modern leaders don't have that symbol before them. Maybe they would be better rulers if they did. Arafinwë jumping up and down is quite amusing, much like the 'hound' the Valar named him. *grin*

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I reall appreciate it.

What a perfect end for the mithril collar. A crown that will always be a reminder of what was and should never be again.

Leave it to an elleth to blurt out the truth without considering the other persons feelings. Poor Amarië.

Author Reply: Hi Tari. I think it's rather appropriate and only Arafinwë and the Valar (and one or two other people) would understand the true significance of the crown.

And I'm sure Lirulin did not mean to make things worse, but she obviously felt that her husband was hemming and hawing too much and just decided that the truth was a lot less painful in the long-run. But you do have to feel for Amarië, knowing her hopes are dashed.

Thanks for reading and reviewing. I really appreciate it.

*wince* ooh ouch Amarie really isn't taking it well (not. That I can blame her in the slightest, really). Intersting use of the chain & collar to make Arafinwe's crown too! Heh, I recall something in Prince Caspian about not being sure about being a king being one of the surest marks of being a good one. Good on Arafinwe, although I'm sure the Valar are all thing "about time!" Am looking forwards to seeing all the threads come together, sounds like things are starting to heat up!

Author Reply: Hi bookworm. No, Amarië is not very happy with Intarion at this moment. And I remember that scene from Prince Caspian and I think it's very true and that aspect of kingship will actually be discussed later on by Arafinwë and Ingwë (when they finally find him). I think as soon as they got rid of Arafinwë the Valar threw a party. LOL! And yes, the threads are coming together and things will be heating up again. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Poor Amarie! Of course she's disappointed, but then Atto has plans for her beloved in Endore to which no one else at the moment is privy. And I can certainly appreciate Intarion's reluctance to face her immediately. It's definitely a stressful time for everyone.

Author Reply: Poor Amarie, indeed! And poor Intarion. The ellon had such high hopes of succeeding and now.... Well, as you say, Larner, Atto has other plans for Finrod, and also for Intarion, for he has an important role to play here in Aman, though he does not realize this yet. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.

Well Aule is reforging the collar into Arafinwe's crown, I thought he might do that, as he kept on say it was a waste of perfectly good Mithril!

We know what Intarion and Lirulin have been doing and Amarie is not a happy camper, I am surprised that she did not haul off and smack Intarion for his comment, either her or Lirulin!

Now to get to Vanyamar and see what The Rat has been up to, other than trying to become High King, that is.

Waiting for Friday,
Huggs,
Lynda

Author Reply: Hi Lynda. We'll be staying with Intarion and Lirulin for at least another chapter before we check in with what is happening in Vanyamar and what Ingwion is up to. Eventually we'll bring all the various story strands together with Arafinwe joining Ingwion in his search for Ingwe, but we won't see that happening any time soon. There is still much to tell in this story so please be patient. Thanks for reading and reviewing. I appreciate it very much.
