From Wilderness to Cities White  by Larner 5 Review(s)

A good look at the young Aragorn, pushing to grow up fast and already very skilled at arms.

Author Reply: I suspect that Estel did his best to perfect his skills, looking to earn the right to ride out with his brothers that he'd been promised.

Thanks so, Raksha!

I'm certain that was a gift the twins felt very ambivalent about! On the one hand they'd be proud that their brother had gained such skill; but they would still want to protect him from danger! I love seeing Aragorn with his brothers, both the twins and Frodo and Sam! Many thanks! :)

Author Reply: Oh, I'm positive you're right, and that as much as they tried to protect him from danger, still he would have insisted on doing all he could that those he was with were doing.

And I'm now thinking of his relationship with his other almost-brother--Halbarad.

Great new addition! I can very well imagine Estel in that scene.

The twins must have experienced a mixture of feelings at that moment: astonishment, pride, amusement :-) but also fear that their small brother might get injured or even worse in a fight.

Author Reply: I suspect you are completely correct on all counts. But already he is proving he is among the greatest of warriors among Men, and will most likely grow greater as he matures. I'm certain that all three of the Peredhil must have been very concerned that he might grow too sure of himself untimely and end up seriously wounded or dead as a result. Those first few patrols would have been deep matters of concern for them, I'm certain. But having promised, I'm equally certain he would have held them to their word.

Certainy a begetting-day gift that is ... different!

Author Reply: That it is. And I am so glad to hear from you! Thanks so, Sunny!

I can't remember if i have commented elswhere but this is worth the effort of two reviews. Very happy to see this moment. A young man growing up but a bit of a mixed-blessing as a begetting-day gift for the twins who, while they will be glad of another skilled fighter, will still be concerned for him in the wider world.

Author Reply: Yes, another warrior who will undoubtedly increase their worries greatly while on patrol, but one who will repay their teaching and trust many times, I'm certain.

Yes, you saw it on LJ, but I agree I'm as greedy for reviews as anyone, and appreciate them all! Thanks so, Harrowcat!
