The Making of a Ringbearer II: Anchored  by Henna Gamgee 6 Review(s)
LarnerReviewed Chapter: 1 on 5/24/2007
I fear I've let this story rather languish for a time and can't quite say why, but I finally have time to begin reading a new author's stories and this has come up to the top. Still another look at how Frodo and Sam met, and I quite enjoy it.

I also have my own ideas as to aging not being quite 2/3s the aging of Men, but that's neither here nor there--am glad your equivalency works for you.

Love the meeting with the Gamgees and Bell's advice to the Gaffer, and love Frodo's settling in.

Squeee! This is as sweet as I knew it would be! What a wonderful start!

Quote:

“Sleep well, dear boy,” Bilbo said, placing a kiss on Frodo’s forehead. He laid the book down on the bureau and left the dark room, closing the door softly behind him.

Frodo smiled in the darkness. He had wondered for so many years how it would feel to have someone read to him and tuck him in at night.

Awww! *reads to him and tucks him in*

I'm sorry, but I couldn't seem to get the picture. I would love to see it! And since I'm here, I must say that I am truly enjoying your trilogy. I have read the first part months ago, but I only just came back to them. And if this is only the second part, and it's not done yet, you really must have a novel in your head. Which I know I will love, since many fanfics are too short for me. For being a first time writer, you are very talented at descriptions and how you portray the characters. I am just now starting (trying, I should say) to write my own fanfic, but I know that I am not a writer and have never written anyhting before. But your story and the way you execute it certainly gives me hope. I know I won't be on the same level as you, but I can cetainly try!

Author Reply: Hmm, I seem to have missed replying to quite a few reviews! I'm sorry! :-\ Did I ever send you the picture? If you give me your e-mail address or e-mail me at obelia_medusa@hotmail.com I can send it to you if you're still interested. Anyway, thank you so much for your sweet review. I do indeed seem to have some kind of novel in my head! I can't believe how long this is getting. I'm still hoping to write the third part one day, too. I will probably always consider myself a science nerd rather than a writer, but thank you! If I have any ability with writing it must come from all the reading I do. :) I read tons and tons of fanfic before I started writing any myself, and the only reason I started writing was because I wanted to see a reeeeally long fic about Frodo's youth and no one was writing one that satisfied me! :P I hope you keep working on your own fanfic; I'm not a writer either but I think if you have a story you want to tell then you'll find people out there who are glad you went to the trouble of writing it down. :)

Apparently this story has been here a while, I can't think why I haven't read it before! I absolutely love Frodo's method of luring Sam out from under the bed--I can easily imagine him having done just that with his beloved Merry. I've often thought that Merry was the main reason Frodo was so easily able to make friends with Sam, who was also much younger.

Author Reply: Yes, I like that idea! :) Merry would have given Frodo lots of practice at dealing with young kids, I think.

Hello Obelia,

I know this review is very late compared to when you wrote it. But I wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed reading this story so far.

The unsureness of Frodo coming to a new home just sets up the scene wonderfully.
Just how someone coming to a new land would feel.

I felt as though I was getting a grand tour of Bag End with Bilbo. Your descriptions made me want to become a hobbit and move in.

Sam and Frodo's first meeting was very inventive and fun to read. A nice gentle way for two friends to meet, not knowing how important that friendship and bond of trust will become in later years.

On to read the next chapter. See you there soon.

JULES

Author Reply: This may have been late compared to when I wrote it, but you'll notice I'm replying even later! :-\ I keep forgetting to reply to reviews on this site... Anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter. I thought a lot about how Frodo and Sam should meet. And I'm not sure why I got so interested in the layout of Bag End, but I eventually wound up not only drawing a floor plan, but now I'm building a doll house of Bag End! My obsession knows no bounds. ;)

I liked how Frodo got Sam out from under the bed. Very humerous. Must read more! :)
