Across Arda's Ages  by Rhyselle 6 Review(s)

What a charming drabble, bringing home the mostly harmonious multiculturalism of Bree, with hobbits and humans living and working side by side. It certainly must have been intimidating for a human to enter a cooking contest with a hobbit!

Well-written and original.

Hurrah for Mrs. Butterbur! And so a Woman can hold her own against the best Hobbitesses in the Shire! Perfect!

Presentation may draw the eye, but it's taste that truly sells the pie, as the innkeeper's wife (I must suppose) finds to her delight. Hooray! Part of what makes the Pony the place both Big and Small go of a quiet evening.

Author Reply: Just as long as no black riders are near! I've always enjoyed reading about different authors' interpretations of the folk of Bree, and just had to try my own. Thanks for the comment!

What a treat to read something about Mrs. Butterbur! I'm so happy for her. :)

Author Reply: From personal experience, it's a thrill to be surprised by a blue ribbon when you were expecting nothing at all. Although I bet Mrs. Butterbur's pie tasted even better than mine!

Awww! Good for Mrs. Butterbur! Pretty is nice, but the proof is in the taste when it comes to pies (and preserves, and pickles, and...etc.).

Author Reply: Most definitely! :)

Oh, this was delightful! I think all of us would feel intimidated going against a hobbit in a bake-off, but there are never any guarantees, after all. A nice little slice of life for Bree.

Author Reply: As scatterbrained as Barliman Butterbur seems to be, I like to think that he has a devoted wife who tries to pick up the pieces behind him. *grin* Bree seems to be a place, being at a crossroads, that lots of fun and interesting things could happen. And since the Shire has the Free Fair at Michael Delving each year, then Bree should have its own fair too. :)
