The Understanding of a Mother  by Ellie 11 Review(s)
KevanaReviewed Chapter: 1 on 3/8/2013
Oh this was a well-deserved first-place winner indeed. You never get to see Galadriel this way, but of course she's a mother and a daughter herself. What a wonderful story, Ellie. Thank you so much. I'll remember this one. What a reunion those three must have had when Galadriel finally returned.

Have a fantastic day!

-Kevana

Author Reply: There is always so much focus on Galadriel as a powerful leader, but I have to wonder if even she forgets that she is also a mother and daughter. I bet the reunion of her with her mother and daughter was a joyous one filed with many tears of apology and of joy.

I'm pleased you enjoyed this. Thank you so very much for reading and reviewing!

Hi Ellie,I know that I have already reviewed this story but I have to tell you, that I still find it moving and powerful.Even more so since it has being 20 years since my mum died.Thank you once again for a beautiful mother/daughter story.Lots of Love Galathil

Author Reply: Galathil,

I am grateful to you for rereading this story and telling me your feelings. It brings me joy that you still find the story so moving. That means a great deal to me.

I lost my dad more than 20 years ago, and I greatly appreciate things that remind me of him, so I understand where you are coming from.

Love and big hugs to you and thank you!
Ellie

Ellie, this was so very beautiful! Terribly sad, but uplifting at the same time.

I love how you showed the powerful Galadriel was like any other mother; grieving at her daughter's pain, full of self-doubt, and wondering if she'd given her own mother the same grief.

And thank you for truly showing us Celeborn the Wise instead of just saying that was his name. :) It would take an exceptional man to be Galadriel's husband and you demonstrated that wonderfully in this piece.

The final part where you went to the other side of the Sundering Sea made me smile and cry too. In a good way, of course!

Well done!

Author Reply: I'm pleased that you were moved by this story. I believe that Celeborn was wiser in the ways of the world than Galadriel. She had book sense by not street smarts so to speak.

I'm glad you enjoyed this story! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Oh, so worthy of them all! How Earwen and Arafinwe must love that letter!

Author Reply: I'm sure they did love the letter and that they treasured it. It was a giant step toward healing which they all needed.

lovely and sad. A late insight but better late than never. I like how Celeborn is supporting his wife. Thank you for a wonderful tale. Lai

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I think that Celebron had to be a strong and supporting husband to have stayed with Galadriel so long and to have loved her so much.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Lovely. And particularly so as a portrait of their marriage.

For all of her yéni, for all of her high wisdom learned at the feet of the Valar and the Maiar and from the great teacher of experience, she still managed to have missed some very important lessons in life. -- Yes. Amazing, isn't it?

I have a question for you: I have seen Galadriel referred to as the White Lady in a few fanfics. She's not so listed in the Encyclopedia of Arda (admittedly incomplete), but is in The Thain's Book (which IIRC isn't perfect -- though perhaps this is most of why I consider it imperfect). In the major books of canon, it's Aredhel and Éowyn who have that sobriquet. I haven't read most of HoME -- and it's quite possible I missed something somewhere along the line. Can you tell me where that name is used for Galadriel? Thanks.

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed this little tale.

I've heard Galadriel referred to as the White Lady, but I honestly can't remember where I heard it. All of my books are in storage at the moment, so I can't reasearch it for you either :-(

Thanks so very much for reading and reviewing!
