Competition  by Raksha The Demon 6 Review(s)
Linda HoylandReviewed Chapter: 1 on 7/6/2011
This is a telling glimpse of young Galadriel and the man who will turn her heart from tomboyish pursuits.I especially enjoyed the glimpse of Luthien. Galadriel is one of my favourite Elves.

Author Reply: I'm not sure that Galadriel's heart will ever turn completely from tomboyish pursuits, after all, during the Ring War, she single-handedly threw down the fortress of Dol Guldur; but now she's found a worthy partner in such pursuits and others besides. I'm glad you liked the glimpse of Luthien; I find her a fascinating character. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Linda!

What a delightful story of the origin both of Galadriel's name and her love for Celeborn! And I liked it that you made Luthien an athlete as well. :)

Author Reply: I'm pleased you enjoyed the story, Virtuella. Oh, Luthien had to have been an athlete; probably she was pretty good at everything she tried, and excelled at some of those things/interests. I don't think that Luthien was as serious about competition as Galadriel was; Luthien was racing for fun, Galadriel was racing to win. I do find Galadriel and Celeborn interesting as a couple; and think they made a passionate and well-suited pair.

Thanks for reviewing!

This was so lovely Raksha. I like your Luthian too!

Author Reply: I had a lot of fun writing Luthien here, if only briefly; I think she was a very observant lady, who had probably wondered when the heck Artanis and Celeborn had a thing for each other...I'm glad you liked the story, Harrowcat, and thanks for the review!

An excellent telling of the beginning of Galadriel and Celeborn's relationship, and a great cameo by Lúthien.

frankly it gives me a headache to read them all -- Oh, you're not alone! I loved your long, inclusive A/N, but it gives me a headache also to contemplate all the denotations and connotations in the 'kal.' Tolkien is always so complex ... which I guess is why we're here....

Author Reply: I'm afraid that my Author's Notes are longer than the story's text, LOL, but I couldn't just throw the reader in without any backup. Yes, my head starts to ache and, at minimum, my eyes glaze over when I try to process all of dear Prof. Tolkien's versions of the lives of Galadriel and Celeborn.

Luthien insinuated herself into the story very quickly and wouldn't leave...Thanks for reading and reviewing, Eiluj!

I love how you imagine this romance to have begun -- between equals, each gifted, passionate, intelligent, and knowing the worth of the other.

Author Reply: Oh yes, Shirebound; I cannot see Galadriel settling for anyone of lesser worth than herself. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Oh, I love contests where all win, as do both Galadriel and Celeborn as he seeks to win her love. A beautiful look at their recognition that this is where their hearts are headed. And love Luthien's unconcern as to who might win, as long as all have a chance and are ministered to as might be needed.

Nice to read this again!

Author Reply: Thanks for reading and reviewing, Larner. I think that Galadriel is a very competitive person; and takes the footrace seriously, while Luthien is giving it her all, but having fun. I wanted to convey that this was the contest was a catalyst to Galadriel and Celeborn's love, brought it out in the open for both, and especially Galadriel to consider, not to mention Luthien and probably others as well; so I'm glad you caught the notion of 'recognition'.
