Author Reply: I'm thinking the Tooks are a sort of "chosen people"...and Petal is the one who will instill that specialness that will eventually give rise to a Bilbo, a Frodo, a Merry and a Pippin, the incipient saviors of Middle Earth. That specialness which will prove an inspiration to Sam and others, as well. I'm thinking that, as Vervain points out, most hobbits were pretty much dull before Petal came along, and she was responsible for making them what they would eventually become--lengendary. |
