How to Make a Match  by Lindelea 35 Review(s)

And in this he follows Merry rather than his father. Heh! A good decision on his part, but not a particularly good one on hers, of course.

Author Reply: I see him as picking up on his Uncle Merry's thoughtful approach to problems. And you're right, Goldi's a "leap before you look" type. Farry's a good match for her -- though she might see him as somewhat boring, at first glance.

Thanks!

...torchlight casting eerie shadows across the determination in her face. In Moria it might have looked so, to your fathers’ eyes – her father’s, and yours...

So much is said in so few words. Goldi is very much like her father in loyalty and Farry seems to take after his 'Uncle Merry' in his planning and his father in quick thinking. They will make a great team someday. ;)

Author Reply: That's one thing I love about drabbles. You have to cut and cut and cut (or at least, I do), to refine a drabble down to the essence of a much larger picture.

I do think they'll make a great team someday... They're not too shabby, even at this age. Farry is able to rein in Goldi's impulsiveness, for the most part, and her impulsiveness lends him an energy that keeps him from getting stuck in thinking things through in search of the "perfect" solution. (And now I want to think up a story where he's the impulsive one, and she has to be the voice of reason.)

Thanks!

Love the wording in this. They both are very much like their parents and others their parents are close to.

I hope he doesn't end up having to run away with her to protect her, as much as he could at his age. I guess that will be answered in the other story. :)

Author Reply: It certainly will be answered in the other story, if I can find the time to type it in. June is a very busy month for us (probably for most people). I remember this feeling... summer's coming, and I think things will slow down in summer, but then June hits like the proverbial ton of bricks. Mixed a metaphor. Would a runaway truck fit the picture better?

Thanks!

Awww...he's channeling Uncle Merry.

You know, I've always imagined young Faramir as physically looking much like his father (only with much darker hair) but as being much like Merry in personality.

Author Reply: It's funny, but my thinking is much the same. My Farry is more of a serious planner, though sometimes his father's whimsy shines through, in an odd moment. Obviously (the quote gives it away) he's echoing Merry, just as Goldi is echoing her father, Sam...

Oh, poor little girl! I still like my idea as to why the rest got left behind. At least Farry is trying to comfort her.

Author Reply: Oh, darn, I never investigated that though I suspect you told me about it before. Is it in a story of yours, may I ask (and maybe not for the first time)? I will put it at the top of my reading list and pursue it as soon as Sam and Rose return from the Southlands (not too many postings from this one, now...)

Aww...poor little Goldi! But at least she has a "mostly clean" hankie...;)

Author Reply: LOL! Mostly clean! Just had to put that part in, it's so little-boyish...

Awww! That is so sweet. Wonder if their parents realize that these two are already bound to each other. And heaven help the one who would ever try to seperate them.

Author Reply: I'm not sure that the parents understand on a conscious level, but Pippin does make some sort of joke about posting the Bans (or is it Banns?) after the mud fight, which makes me wonder what he's thinking... He also keeps joking about asking Sam and Rose if he can adopt Goldi, so that he can have a "golden-haired lass" too -- after all, they have more than one, so why shouldn't he take a page out of the ruffians' book and propose some judicious gathering and sharing?

No, with time with Farry to look forward to I'm certain it won't seem anywhere long enough in the end. Heh!

Author Reply: You're probably right!

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you.

Right now I think she NEEDS Harry-Fairy! Heh!

Author Reply: I think they're good for each other! JRRT evidently thought so ...

Aww...I love that Goldi is enjoying her time there! But still, missing Farry!

Author Reply: I can only imagine how diverting the visit must be... am envisioning something like a childhood visit my brother and I had on someone's farm when our parents went on a long journey.

Thanks!
