And the only one who rightly reads each of the other is the youngest, who is intent as always to distract his beloved older cousins from their preoccupations.

Author Reply: Exactly! Because dwelling on secrets is not a good way to keep them, is it? *grin*

p.s. I would love to hear the rest of that song...

Chapter 3 of "The Life of a Bard". It also appeared by itself in one of Marigold's early challenges.

Author Reply: Ok, the link didn't work that way. Let's try it this way:

Author Reply: Didn't work that way either, darn it. Anyhow, it's in Ch. 3 of "Life of a Bard".

Ah, layer upon layer upon layer. Such a tension as is building -- finally to be released, when they at last reach Crickhollow.

Well done!

Author Reply: Yes, all the conspiracies swirling around, and the secrets causing all that tension! No wonder they all felt so relieved once all was revealed!

Thanks! *grin*

A hobbit of habit is Nob O' the Lea...

Great little story and great song ;-)

What I like most about it (and already have liked while reading "Conspiracy") is the fact that both Merry and Frodo never realised that Pippin did know all along what was going on. So: Never underestimate Peregrin Took ;-)

Author Reply: Thanks!

Yes, just as Frodo did not realize Merry knew, neither Frodo nor Merry knew that Pippin knew until Pippin was ready to tell them.

(Of course, the only conspirator who knew all the conspircacies was Fatty Bolger, LOL!)

Leave it to Pip to liven things up. :) Gandalf was so right about why Pippin and Merry should be part of the Company - for this very reason. Bless them all.

Namarie, God bless, Antsne :)

Author Reply: Indeed, Pippin's going to do his best!

Of course Gandalf was right--they could make a show: "Gandalf Knows Best"!

What a wonderful glimpse of their last summer before the world outside changed them forever. Merry and Frodo's personalities are captured perfectly here as is Pippin's ability to distract them, even when they don't realize why he's doing it. Pippin is also the quintisintial tween.

This was a wonderful read for a summer evening.

Author Reply: Pip really is an optimistic tween, and he's Took through and through!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
