Ring Around the Rosie  by shirebound 14 Review(s)

What a fun idea! And I love the idea of Aragorn and Arwen out for a picnic w the Gamgees -- these are the good times they all worked so hard for...

Author Reply: These are indeed the peaceful, fun times they all sacrificed for. It's fun to imagine the Gamgees and their children entertaining the King and Queen, and being so informal with them.

What a sweet, lovely tale! I love reading additional canon scenes, and this is a perfect one for this group and the time.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! :)

Ah Shirebound, I come back with a fast new internet connection and this was the first thing I saw. What a wonderful story - you know anything to do with hobbits makes me happy!

Glad to be back in the virtual world. You'll be hearing more from me - and hopefully I can get back to writing again.

Author Reply: I'm overjoyed to hear from you, BB! I know you've had a lot of internet challenges over the years. I'm so delighted you like this story, and of COURSE I always look forward to anything you can write and share with us. I still re-read your wonderful tales very often.

Cute story... I love the Gamgee-Cotton family so much. I like the hobbit version of the nursery rhyme more than the original version, especially since the original version is about the Black Plague in Europe.

Author Reply: Thank you. I like having a 'hobbity' version of that rhyme as well.

And I'm glad you included some of the older children. A marvelous usage of our children's song/game.

Author Reply: Thank you. What a lot of stories these children will have to tell when they get home!

What’s important is that for them, and for all the Shire, it’s a happy ending, with children free to sing and grow up strong.

Exactly! Let them be children as long as possible. When they are grown-up it is the right time to tell them all the truth.

I also enjoyed the description of Merry-lad and Pippin-lad:

Merry’s impulsiveness continued to remind everyone of Uncle Pippin, while young Pippin displayed the calm and methodical personality of Uncle Merry.

*grins* Very funny indeed!

Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea! It's fun to imagine that young Merry is like Uncle Pippin, and young Pippin is like Uncle Merry. I'm sure that would be amusing to all concerned.

Very clever nursery rhyme.

"What’s important is that for them, and for all the Shire, it’s a happy ending, with children free to sing and grow up strong."

Yes indeed.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. And yes, that's what Frodo wanted most of all, I think.

This was lovely. You used the prompts well, not in a stilted way. They enhanced the tale.

I loved the sight of the Gamgee children with their mom. I don't consider it an AU, for I cannot imagine Rosie leaving ALL her children at home.

The song's embrace of history is great. Fits perfectly.

As for Sam remembering Frodo at such a time - undeniably Sam.

Very nicely done. Leaves me with a warm feeling in my tummy - like hot chocolate on a winter's night.

Author Reply: "The song's embrace of history..." what a great description. Thank you so much for your kind comments. Warm and gentle scenes like this make me so happy. :)

Ring around the Rosie indeed - love the rhyme and especially Sam's joy at becoming a father again. A lovely day for everyone! Le hannon, my dear.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I know you share my love for hobbits, especially joyful ones. :)

Not much in to the hobbits but this jumped out on coming here. And with the synopsis I just had to read.

I am very glad I did. It's an "aw" story for sure. I really enjoyed the children and the Hobbit-ness of the scene, which rather surprised me! LOL The words you gave up for Ring Around the Rosey though are priceless.

I'd say job well done!

Author Reply: Thank you so much for reading, Miko! Crafting and sharing 'hobbity' scenes like this bring me much joy.
