Interrupted Journeys 9: Bitter Paths  by elliska 8 Review(s)

Late. Sorry. This is a really intense chapter! Brutal all the way through. And poor Legolas and Anastor having to fight an elf. They probably want to after they've all been through, but after things cool down, I bet they'll feel differently. Great fight scene.

Oh well, serves me well for saing I wasn't worried about Legolas and Thranduil, now you leave me with such a cliff-hanger that will last some 4 weeks for me, since I doubt I'll get internet connection for that time... :-( Evil woman!!!! :-)

Really liked this chapter, elliska. Going from the fire to the frying pan, the harsh decisions they all have to make (killing someone that's not an orc is surely something that will crash upon Anastor as soon as he has time to think of it...if he lives to tell the tale) not to mention Tuus and Dannennion's brave last stand, and the kids' desperation at being almost free to the desperation of being caught again and what that might mean for the corageous rescuers... no matter the physical danger, the emotional consequences of this FUBAR situation are going to be epic, and yet they are realistic in the grim, but almost understated manner you're using. Congrats!!!!

Author Reply: Hehehe! I am so sorry you have a weeks long, work-inflicted cliff hanger! That is especially cruel. Worry a little about Legolas. I can't kill him, but I can put him through some angst! ;-)

Harsh decisions. Yeap, you got it. And they've got more of those coming. Both Anastor and Legolas. And Tulus and Dannenion's situation is, indeed, at this point FUBAR. There is very little they can hide but so much that they want to hide still.

I am so glad you are enjoying! Thanks so much for the reviews. I appreciate them so much!

Wow! What a great chapter and intense cliffhanger! You always make my day when you upload something =) Demil is absolutely insane- I really wonder why he hates Legolas and his family so much. And whatever happened that made him so so crazy?! I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author Reply: Sorry to be so long in replying. I teach and this week was the first week back to class for the semester. That always keeps me busy.

I'm so glad it was and intense chapter!

Demil is insane. You'll get a bit more of a peek at why Demil et al hate the House of Oropher so much at the end of this. But that, I'm afraid, you won't learn the whole reason for until Marti gets hers.

Thanks so much for the reviews! I appreciate them so much!

You just can't stop right there, it is really criminal to do so! Kill Demil! he is very evil, no doubts about that.
Great chapter, I thought that Anastor was close to loose his tongue, well, he almost deserved that, hopefully he will learn...they should include the lessons on the training, how to conduct yourself in captivity...I think that Daw did that in one of her stories, I'm confuse now...I'm counting on the guards that the Queen sent, no one knows about that. Poor Anastor, he will have a terrible understanding of why they were living on the stronghold. He was very annoying when he was a child with Legolas, but he is loyal to the King and I think that after this he will a good supporter of Tharnduil.
And Tulus, I really like him, he is so devoted to Legolas and we know that after this the King won't be so forgiving, with him knowing about "whatever her name is"and his son on the middle of this, that is, if he survives....His son, does he have any regrets? He should had known that his Father was in danger, Why don't they think?! And he was Dolgailon's best friend...I still blame a little bit Thranduil and his brother on Tulus' s son mess, they should had handled that situation better and not let it fester and ripe for traitors to use, guess everybody needs to learn. So many questions...please update....Thank you. Back to work....

Author Reply: Sorry for being so long in replying. New semester at school keeps me busy for a week or two....

Hehehe! I'm glad I kept you tense. :-) Poor Anastor. It might be easier on him if his mouth couldn't get him in so much trouble. This experience will mature him. A lot. The training does include how to conduct yourself in captivity--either Anastor didn't take that yet, or he failed it! ;-) But yes, daw did that in the story where Legolas is taken captive by a man who wants to use him and a leader from Esgaroth's daughter for leverage. I love Thranduil and Legolas in that story! Elian too!

Tulus--he has some changes coming. That's all I'll say about that. That and you are right--he is completely devoted to Legolas. Poor guy. Glilavan. I'll be mean and let you wait to see his fate. He and Tulus are in a mess that is going to remain pretty central to this story for the next few stories. And Thranduil does have some blame in it. That's what makes it fun!

Thanks so much for the reviews! I really appreciate them so much!

Sooooo I read and reviewed this on the other website. I was so frustrated I couldn't type a decent review. Please ignore my rambling. Anyhoots...WHAT A GREAT CHAPTER! You literally had me sitting on the edge of my seat spluttering when it ended! Fantastic job! I was so nervous when I thought he had cut out Anastor's tongue. I'm like What!? No! and then they turned the tables phew...and then the fight scene, way to think through the fight Legolas! Didn't take Demil long to learn to take him seriously. I'm glad Legolas wouldn't go for the kill. Good elf!

WHERE IS THRANDUIL?! He needs to move faster! Must we really wait a whole week for the next update? I am both hating a LOVING all this angst! More loving than hating of course.

Author Reply: :-) <== Huge evil grin. I suppose I am a very mean person for enjoying your reaction so much. I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and were on the edge of your seat. That is, of course, exactly what I was going for.

I'm glad Legolas wouldn't go for the kill. Good elf!

I completely agree. Unfortunately, as Demil pointed out, this is going to end one way. One very difficult way.

Legolas and Anastor wish Thranduil would move faster too. And your week is up. I will be posting in a few minutes. Sorry for being so long in answering reviews. It was a new semester at school and that keeps me busy. Thanks so much for the reviews. They made my day. :-)

I think I made a mistake to start reading this over breakfast this morning when I got my email to say it was up. Tongues being cut and porridge don't mix...

The hot spit was put to much better use than I thought then!

I love Legolas' concern for his father here. Thranduil is surrounded by his guard trying to save his son while Legolas is inexperienced, injured and still wants to rescue his father! Fantastic.

And so many difficult questions for Dannenion from his son and then he'll have to face the King too! Eek.

Don't keep us on this cliffhanger for too long.

Author Reply: Sorry to be so long in replying. I started a new semester last week and it kept me busy...

Ooo! Yeah, this chapter and morning breakfast probably wasn't a good combination. ;-) This is as scary as I can write. I'm a wimp. :-)

I liked your comment about Legolas. I like thinking of Fellowship Legolas and his concern, for example, over the Hobbits. It seemed to me that maybe one of the reasons he was chosen was that he could be a team player, to use a very modern term. I think that he would think about the whole picture, and his father is definitely part of that picture. Anyway...

Yeah, Dannenion's life is about to get much worse. You've got that right. :-)

Thanks so much for the review! I appreciate them so much!

Usually, I wait until I've finished reading to open this review window, but I'm doing it now because The Very Bad Man is threatening to remove their tongues and he just stuck a knife in the dirt and went to call for that hot spit and I'm stressed! OMG. I don't do well with torture stuff. Deep breath and back to the story.

All right, that got better. Thank god. Not good, but better. I was ridiculously relieved and happy when Legolas shoved that hot spit in Balchthor's gut. Anastor slicing his throat was just icing on the cake. Wow. Maybe I don't mind violent stuff after all. Oh well. He had it coming, which Karen says is a good legal defense in the South.

"Shoot them, steal the horses and head back to the forest?"

Good plan. We think alike, Anastor. No time to get fancy.

Demil's experience killing elves far exceeded his own

Good one, Legolas. I have to say that Demil is right that Legolas keeps his head well. So does Anastor, for that matter. He's irritating sometimes but he's brave and as good in a fight as anyone has a right to expect. Since Legolas is not going to die, maybe Anastor has a chance to be a hero here?

So, hm, how far away is the Elven king? And how is that fight back at the bad guy camp going? Is Dannenion ever going to have to answer his son's uncomfortable questions?

Great chapter.

Author Reply: Sorry to be so long in answering reviews. First week of a new term and all that. You know how that goes...

I'm mean, but I'm glad I stressed you out. I don't do the torture stuff either (I couldn't even make it through the scene where they have to execute the wolf in GoT, so that'll tell you what a wimp I am). So this is actually as scary as I can write. I'm glad it worked. :-)

Legolas and Anastor are definitely doing a good job though. Legolas has more training and experience, so you expect something of him. Anastor is really stepping up. Poor kid.

I'll leave you a bit longer wondering how it will end. Sorry. But since I'm so late in replying, at least I can tell you that I'll post the next part in a few minutes. :-)

Thanks so much for the reviews. I appreciate them so much!
