The Time of Probing  by Larner 8 Review(s)

Ooo! A story that fills one of my favorite gaps that I didn't even realize was here! ...Hmmm...so much for going to bed! *grin* Yes, soothing a loved one, even a four-legged one, can be soothing in turn. And I love the respect the elves give to Sam and Bill both.

Great start!

I like it very much that Bill the Pony was there to help Sam keep going. In fact Glorfindel's plan worked so well that they needed Gandalf to make Sam release Bill again.

Author Reply: I do think that Bill did a good deal to help Sam stay sane during the flight to the ford. It gave him something to focus upon besides Frodo's worsening condition But I do suspect all of them were feeling pretty overwhelmed once they finally arrived at Elrond's door, and needed to be assured they were now as safe as anyone can be. Thanks so, Andrea!

I´m not a big fan of hobbit stories but this one has instantly raised my interest and I liked it from the start. Most of all I like your Aragorn. Sam not wanting to let the pony go was heart-warming. I´m curious where you will go with this. Lai

Author Reply: I prefer stories that involve most of the Fellowship, and particularly the Hobbits, Aragorn, and Gandalf, although I've written about Arda from the beginning of the Creation until after the Last Battle. Am so glad you like my depiction of Aragorn, as I try to make him a three-dimensional character who is as prone to be enchanted by Hobbits as any Wizard. Heh! Thanks so much!

A great start to this story.I love Sam's bond with Bill!

Author Reply: Oh, thank you so, Linda! Bill and Sam do appear to have come to adore one another, and shared a special regard for Frodo as well.

How nice to see another series started! This will be a terrible time for them with all the stress and worry but angst-lover that I am, I look forward to it anyway in the hands of a master storyteller and one who loves our dear ones. Love most the care given to try to ease Sam's anxiety. A great gift for these lucky birthday ladies and all of us! (Hope this doesn't post twice, I got an error message the first time).

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I just hope this doesn't take forever to finish as some others have done! I think all four Hobbits and Aragorn and Bill needed reassurance that Frodo would recover and that all that could be done was being done after all.

Thank you so much, Antane!

Oh, thank you so much, dear! What an excellent beginning--I love stories set during this time period, and was recently wishing someone would write a new one!

Author Reply: Am so glad that this one appears to have been fated to be written, then! Hope your birthday was a joyful one!

Oh boy oh boy, I'm already enjoying this. How utterly exhausted they must all have been, Strider included, by the time they reached Rivendell. Dear Sam, how we love him.

Author Reply: I suspect they were all very exhausted indeed, and especially Strider as he'd not been able to sleep deeply I'm certain since Weathertop! And, yes, we do love our Sam!

Gripping beginning. Since not too much has been written about this time, I am curious for your views. I love your Aragorn. Please include him all you can. Thank you

Author Reply: It's been interesting probing those several days between the arrival and Frodo's awakening. And you know that Aragorn will be included, as much as I can work him in! I suspect he was heavily involved in the first few days at least in the treatment for Frodo. And thank you!
